  • Patent number: 4875643
Abstract: A helicopter equipped with a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine in which an override clutch is arranged in a drive connection between the internal combustion engine and a rotor drive, is equipped with separate first and second electric motor starter devices (screw-push starters). A starter operation takes place in two phases whereby in a first phase initially the rotor drive is brought to a rotor synchronous rotational speed syn by means of the first starter device and in a second phase the internal combustion engine is started by means of the second starter device. When the internal combustion engine exceeds the idling rotational speed nl, the override clutch establishes the power-flow connection between the internal combustion engine and the rotor drive. Both phases can be carried out manually as also by a partly automatic or fully automatic control system on the basis of key depression.

  • Patent number: 4841926
Abstract: Sparks are generated in the ignition distributor of an internal combustion engine during the interruption of the high voltage current which lead to the formation of ozone. In order to remove this ozone causing strong oxidation and corrosion, rapidly out of the ignition distributor, the distributor housing is connected to the charging air line leading from the turbocharger to the cylinder head of the internal combustion engine and is scavenged by charging air.

  • Patent number: 4830312
Abstract: A helicopter is driven by means of a rotor that is connected with an internal-combustion engine. The air-cooled internal-combustion engine has a horizontally opposed construction and is arranged within walls of a cabin of the helicopter. In order to supply the internal-combustion engine with cooling air and intake air, air inlet openings are provided at the side walls of the cabin. For the discharge of the cooling air, outlet openings are arranged at the underside of the cabin.

  • Patent number: 4807439
Abstract: An exhaust gas system with a silencer for an internal combustion engine supercharged by a turbocharger includes a main line leading to the turbine of the turbocharger and a bypass line bypassing the turbine. The main line and the bypass line terminate in the silencer aligned to one another in such a manner that the exhaust gas flow of the main line exerts an ejector action on the exhaust gas flow of the bypass line.

  • Patent number: 4693670
Abstract: An adjusting device is provided for an airplane propulsion system using the reciprocating piston combustion engine and a propeller, which adjusting device simultaneously adjusts the throttle valve and the propeller pitch of the propellers. The adjusting device is formed with a connecting rod and a carrier rod connected thereto. The connecting rod is provided as an adjusting cable whereby the cable core is under spring pretensioning in lower rotational speeds of the motor.

  • Patent number: 3942003
Abstract: For the in situ analysis of marine ore concretions, ore samples are aspirated from the sea floor and introduced in a sample container aboard a carrier body travelling underwater along and in the vicinity of the sea floor. While in the sample container, the ore concretions are exposed to radioactive rays for inducing a secondary radiation emanating from the ore concretions. The secondary radiation is measured for determining the quantity of the individual elements contained in the ore concretions.
