  • Patent number: 5170884
Abstract: A lever assembly for the control of various electrical functions of a motor vehicle includes a hand operated control lever which is tiltable and rotatable with respect to and is supported by a base. A tension spring extends along a rotation axis of the control lever axis. One end of the spring is hooked to the control lever and the other end is coupled to the base, either directly or indirectly. The tension spring is hooked to a pin which is connected to the control lever and which simultaneously defines a tilt axis and forms part of a rotational stop mechanism. An arm of the control lever receives a plunger to which a contact of a horn operating switch element is attached. A pair of turn signal micro-switches are attached to the base and can be operated by rotation of the control lever. A third, central, dimmer micro-switch is operated by tilting the control lever to a detent position defined by a control gate which is attached to the base.

  • Patent number: 5113046
Abstract: A commercially available micro-switch is enclosed in a two-piece plastic housing which is provided with centering pins. A tab and slot connection forms a labyrinth between the two housing halves and helps protect the interior from intrusion by dust and water. A mechanical actuator is preferably a U-shaped configuration of flat spring steel with one leg located inside the housing and with another leg located outside the housing. The inner leg of the actuator is divided into a first curved tongue and a second tongue. The second tongue extends along an interior of a side wall of the housing and has a free end which engages the micro-switch unit. A base which connects the inner and outer legs extends through an aperture in the housing and is supported, free from any wear, by an O-ring seal between both housing halves.

  • Patent number: 5090082
Abstract: A windshield wiping device for swivelling windshields of motor vehicles. The device includes a wiper shaft, which is supported on the assembly adjacent to the swivel axis of the windshield, and a wiper arm projecting over the windshield. The arm includes an attachment part, by means of which it is attached to the wiper shaft, and a pivoting part which can be swivelled relative to the attachment part around a swivelling axis, and which, by means of an electrical motor is brought into a stopping position on the windshield, in which the electrical motor is independently switched off by means of a stopping position switch. In order to open the windshield without damage, in the stopping position, the swivelling axis, between the attachment part and the pivoting part of the wiper arm, is directed at least approximately in parallel to the swivelling axis of the windshield.

  • Patent number: 4747462
Abstract: A mechanical four wheel drive tractor having a solenoid valve which is de-energized to effect engagement of drive to the front wheels in a predetermined operational mode. Normally, the valve is controlled by an operator switch but when the engine is overloaded and exhaust gas temperature rises, a thermal sensor breaks the circuit to the solenoid valve so that four wheel drive is automatically engaged. This action is restricted to a low gear range by a switch linked to the mechanism selecting between the low range and a high range. Restriction to a low gear range prevents unwanted automatic four wheel drive engagement from occuring in other gear ranges without regard to vehicle speed. Automatic engagement of four wheel drive reduces the overload on the transmission.

  • Patent number: 4638276
Abstract: A reed switch includes a housing in which extends a stepped bore for slidably receiving a magnet carrying sleeve. The sleeve includes a longitudinal bore which receives a glass tube. The sleeve is slidable with respect to the glass tube. The glass tube encloses a switch element. The longitudinal bore is connected to the environment via pressure-equalizing bores in order to avoid the build-up of a high pressure or a vacuum inside the read switch. Collecting pockets for dirt particles are provided between the sleeve and the housing. The stepped bore opens at one end of the housing. The open end of the housing has an inner chamfer which forms an edge from which fluid easily falls away.

  • Patent number: 4453895
Abstract: An electric pump is housed in a recess in a wall of a water container and the pump inlet tube plugs into a lower portion of the container. A polarized electrical connector plugs onto blade terminals on top of the pump. In order to protect the connector from contamination and corrosion, the connector carries a cover plate attached by aperture lugs of the connector snapped onto pegs on the underside of the plate. A plurality of pairs of pegs in different positions can be provided for use with pumps with variously positioned terminals. When the unit is fitted with the recessed wall against a mounting surface of the vehicle, the enclosure of the pump is completed.

  • Patent number: 4435875
Abstract: An improved parallel arm windshield wiper assembly is disclosed of the type in which a drive spindle projects through an aperture formed in a windshield. The drive spindle is connected at one end to a motor and has a wiper arm attached to its opposite end. The wiper arm supports a wiper blade which is aligned parallel to a control arm which is also pivotally connected near the outer end of the drive spindle. The ends of the control arm and the wiper arm are connected together by a wiper blade support member which supports a wiper blade. The improvement includes a spacer tube and a sleeve coaxially aligned about the drive spindle with the spacer tube being on the outside. A bracket is mateable with the outer end of the spacer tube and is held in place by a nut threaded onto the sleeve. The bracket is angled outward away from the windshield and has a stud secured to its distal end to which the control arm is pivotally attached.
