  • Patent number: 6871734
Abstract: The invention pertains to a motor vehicle with overspeed protector. The clutch in the power train of the motor vehicle can be operated in dependency upon the engine speed in such a way that it is disengaged or operates with slip when the engine speed exceeds a preselected limit while the clutch is engaged. The threshold value of the engine speed is ascertained on the basis of the prevailing (instantaneous) engine speed and the prevailing (instantaneous) or desired increase of transmission ratio. Gear shifting errors and overspeeding of the vehicle are thus prevented in a manner which is more reliable than by following prior proposals.

  • Patent number: 6865467
Abstract: Specific shift positions of an electrically actuated vehicle transmission, such as first to fifth, neutral and reverse gears, are detected by monitoring one or more characteristic electrical variables, e.g., actuator currents, during a shift movement of the transmission and by correlating increased or decreased levels of current with the arrival at or passage through the specific shift positions.

  • Patent number: 6834221
Abstract: The method is designed for a motor vehicle equipped with wheel rpm sensors and means to determine whether the wheels are either rolling normally or locked or spinning without adhesion. The method employs plausibility routines to determine whether an abnormal wheel rpm sensor signal is due to locking or spinning of the wheel or whether it is due to a sensor failure. In case that an abnormal condition is detected, an alternate strategy is initialized to determine wheel rpm rates and perform control functions that are based on wheel rpm rates.

  • Patent number: 6832147
Abstract: In a vehicle with a gear-shift transmission of a kind that requires a torque-free state to shift gears, the riding comfort is improved by a method of shifting gears where a gear shift is preceded by the steps of: reducing the vehicle acceleration at a time t1 from an existing level (1) to a first acceleration level (3), maintaining the vehicle acceleration at the reduced level (3) for a predetermined time interval, and at the end point t3 of the predetermined time interval, reducing the acceleration further to a second acceleration level that is lower than the first level.

  • Patent number: 6814687
Abstract: The comfort level gear shift motor vehicle with an automated gear-shifting transmission is determined by shift parameters, which are dependent on driving parameters and on a shift program mode. The shift program mode identified through a characteristic parameter, which can vary a range of parameter values corresponding to a range of shift program modes. The method has the steps of detecting current values the driving parameters, detecting a current value of the characteristic parameter, determining respective minimum and maximum values that each of said shift parameters can assume within the range of characteristic parameter values as a function of the current driving parameter values, calculating actual shift parameter values as intermediate values between said maximum and minimum values for each of said shift parameters based on said current value of the characteristic parameter, and performing the gear shift with the actual shift parameter values.

  • Publication number: 20040129100
Abstract: A transmission system including a shift mechanism for operating and controlling the transmission system. To automatically detect geometric characteristic values of the transmission system or of the shifting device a selector motor and a shift motor actuate a selector finger that is displaceably mounted in a selection-shift-passageway layout. Starting from an initial position whose coordinates within the selection-shift-passageway layout are unknown, the selector finger is displaced in the directions of shifting and in the directions of selection in order to detect paths of movement in the direction of selection or shifting. The selector finger is repeatedly displaced to establish the maximum paths of movement until the predetermined transmission geometric characteristic values are completely detected. Also disclosed are a control device for controlling a transmission system that includes a shift mechanism, and a method for controlling such a transmission system.

  • Publication number: 20040077457
Abstract: In a motor vehicle transmission, gears representing different transmission ratios are engaged by applying a force to an actuator output element that couples a selected gear to a rotary shaft. A synchronizing device blocks the coupling of the gear to the shaft until at least an approximate synchronization of rpm-rates has been achieved. A synchronization threshold position corresponding to the blocked condition of the actuator element is stored in a memory of a controller device. The controller device periodically performs an automatic adaptation of the stored value for the synchronization threshold position.

  • Patent number: 6612416
Abstract: A motor vehicle has an automated clutch (2) and/or an automated transmission (3) that are operated by an actuator (11, 8) through control commands of a control device (7). At least some of the control commands depend on sensor input indicating whether or not the brakes of the motor vehicle are applied. To detect the actuation of the brakes, the motor vehicle uses two brake sensors or switches (71, 72) rather than only one, thereby providing an additional margin of safety in the operation of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6516255
Abstract: A method of operating a motor vehicle that is equipped with sensors to detect the rpm-rates of the driven wheels includes the steps of: a) determining current rpm-rates of one or more driven wheels; b) examining the current rpm-rates for potential errors; c) detecting whether a command for a gear shift has been initiated; and d) in case an error was found in step b), taking protective measures so that the engine cannot be forced to run at rpm-rates detrimental to the safe operation of the vehicle as a consequence of executing and completing the gear shift.
