Publication number: 20190200273Abstract: An anchor node receives a packet, duplicates the packet to form two copies, flags each of two data units, each comprising one of the copies, with a duplication flag indicating the corresponding data unit comprises a copy. The anchor node sends one of the two data units through protocol layers towards transmission to a UE, and sends another of the two data units over a network interface and towards one or more duplicating nodes. A duplicating node receives in the data unit a copy of the packet. The duplicating node forwards the data unit with the packet to a first of multiple protocol layers toward transmission via an air interface toward the UE. The duplicating node discards, in the first protocol layer or in a layer lower than the first, the packet in response to receiving an ACK that a copy of the packet was successfully received by the UE.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2017Publication date: June 27, 2019Inventors: Klaus I. Patent number: 8954009Abstract: For each nth carrier frequency bandwidth of a set of N carrier frequency bandwidths there is determined interference (in which n is an index and N is an integer greater than one). For each nth carrier frequency bandwidth, there is determined a number of cells operating on the nth carrier frequency bandwidth. The number of carrier frequency bandwidths available for selection is reduced to less than N by excluding from consideration at least one carrier frequency bandwidth based on the determined number of cells operating thereon. From the reduced number is selected a carrier frequency bandwidth for use by a host femto cell. In various specific embodiments: the carrier frequency bandwidth excluded from consideration has a maximum number of cells operating thereon; and/or closed subscriber group cells having path loss exceeding a threshold are excluded from the per carrier count; and/or only femto cells are included in the per carrier count.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2010Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: Nokia Siemens Networks OyInventors: Klaus I. Pedersen, Troels E. Kolding, Chun Hai Yao

Patent number: 8913575Abstract: The present invention relates to optimized radio resource utilization in a cellular telecommunication system. A base station of such a system evaluate a capacity metric of the base station and capacity metrics of neighboring base stations. In response to detecting that the capacity metric of the base station is below a threshold with respect to the capacity metrics of the neighboring base stations, the base station enters a stand-by mode and releases its radio resources that essentially define a cell associated with the base station so that the released radio resources become available for allocation to at least one of the neighboring base stations.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2010Date of Patent: December 16, 2014Assignee: Nokia Siemens Networks OyInventors: Klaus I. Pedersen, Luis Garcia, Gustavo Wagner

Patent number: 8543064Abstract: Uplink interference coupling is estimated between a first cell and a second cell by adjusting downlink interference coupling between the cells at least according to user equipment UE transmit power per physical resource block PRB. This estimated uplink interference coupling is used to decide whether to take a component carrier into use in the first cell. In various embodiments: the uplink interference coupling is estimated by adjusting the downlink interference coupling according to transmit power per PRB of a first UE in the first cell and transmit power per PRB of a second UE in the second cell; and by further adjusting the downlink interference coupling according to path losses of the first and second UEs; and the transmit power per PRB as well as the path loss of the second UE is determined from signaling received in the first cell from the second UE operating in the second cell.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2011Date of Patent: September 24, 2013Assignee: Nokia Siemens Networks OyInventors: Klaus I. Pedersen, Istvan Z. Kovacs, Luis Garcia

Patent number: 8112075Abstract: The invention provides a method or system where the UE sends the CQI to the base station (Node B) based on whether a HARQ retransmission is expected. For example, if a HARQ retransmission is expected, then the UE can reduce the CQI information to sending less (or no) bits in the uplink. In effect, the UE will automatically stop sending CQIs to the base station (Node B) for time-periods where it is known that HARQ retransmissions will be scheduled. The method or system may include one or more steps or elements for implementing this functionality in the UE.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2007Date of Patent: February 7, 2012Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventor: Klaus I.
