  • Patent number: 6942708
Abstract: A diesel particulate filter construction, for filtering particulate from a flow of exhaust, includes a first layer of electrically resistive metal filter material in line with the flow of exhaust with particulate therein and a second layer of electrically resistive filter material which is also in line with the flow of exhaust with particulate therein. The layers are pleated cylinders concentrically positioned relative to one another. Current from a power supply is routed through the first layer and the second layer, which are electrically connected in series to one another. The layers are positioned so that exhaust flows through both the layers. Sufficient heat is generated by the flow of current through the layers to generate heat to, in turn, burn off entrapped particulate.

  • Patent number: 6572682
Abstract: A Diesel particulate filter cartridge system for filtering particulate matter and nitrogen oxide from a flow of air containing particular matter includes a filter support plate with a plurality of cylindrical electrically regenerable filter media members connected thereto. A NOx trap is also provided that is either incorporated directly into the filter media members or provided as a separate structure in close proximity to the filter media members. A valve assembly includes a number of independently actuatable damper valves that correspond to a number of through holes in the filter support plate. When actuated, the damper valves limiting flow of air through a corresponding through hole and filter media member connected thereto. An outer housing is disposed about the valve assembly and filter media members to contain them in a compact package. A programmable computer control module shuts off the flow of air through a filter media member and selectively electrically regenerates it.

  • Patent number: 6063150
Abstract: A self-cleaning particle filter for Diesel engines is provided. The filter includes a filter housing, control circuitry, a removable filter sandwich and independent power source. The removable filter sandwich includes a number of sintered metal strips sewn and positioned between two sheets of inorganic material to provide a filter sandwich. Current is delivered to the metal filter strips to efficiently burn off carbon, lube oil and unburned fuel particulates which have been filtered from exhaust gas. The filter sandwich is formed into a cylindrical configuration and mounted onto a perforated metal carrier tube for receiving and filtering exhaust gas.

  • Patent number: 4589079
Abstract: Apparatus for evaluating signals generated by first and second spatially separated rows of photoconductors positioned with respect to a measuring plane. The outputs of the photoconductors in each of the rows is scanned by a sampling circuit at a predetermined rate, and the outputs of each sampling circuit coupled to at least one evaluation circuit. Each of the evaluation circuits includes an analog-to-digital converter coupled to the output of the associated sampling circuit, and a pair of digital delay circuits having their inputs alternately coupled to the output of the A/D converter. A comparator is provided for comparing a threshold signal generated by a reference generator with the outputs of the digital delay circuits, the comparator generating a digital signal having a value corresponding to the difference between the ratio of the signals at the outputs of the delay circuits and the threshold signal.

  • Patent number: 4237079
Abstract: A fuel supply device is proposed which serves to supply fuel to a mixture-compressing, externally ignited internal combustion engine with a good distribution of the fuel-air mixture. The fuel supply device includes a fuel metering device activated by an air metering device arranged in the air intake manifold of the internal combustion engine with the fuel metering device being connected to an air line in which the metered fuel is mixed with air before the injection into the air intake manifold. Between the air line and the fuel line, upstream from the fuel metering position, a filter having a fine-meshed weave is arranged by means of which the fuel is prevented from flowing out over the air line in an undesirable manner.

  • Patent number: 4175102
Abstract: A fuel supply device, which serves to predetermine a fuel quantity that is proportional to the aspirated air quantity, and also serves to spread the air-fuel mixture. The fuel supply device includes an air metering device, which is arranged in the air intake manifold of the internal combustion engine and activates a fuel metering device, which has a control slit that opens a control groove by a varying amount. The control slit and the control groove are rotatable relative to each other, and the control groove has at least one control edge, which overlaps the control slit and is formed at an angle relative to the axis of rotation. The control slit is arranged in a guide sleeve and the control groove is arranged in a rotatable sleeve mounted in the guide sleeve with the rotatable sleeve being arbitrarily shifted relative to the guide sleeve.

  • Patent number: RE48138
Abstract: An electrically regeneratable filter element comprises at least two flanks, each of these flanks comprising a stiff material layer. Each of these flanks has at least one thermally and electrically insulated side. The filter element comprises further a metal fiber fleece being pleated according to pleating lines providing an edge with pleat openings. The metal fiber fleece is mounted between the flanks, in such a way that the thermally and electrically insulated sides make contact with the edge, meanwhile these sides closing the pleat openings.
