  • Publication number: 20120158271
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine, in particular, of a motor vehicle. The internal combustion engine includes an injector having a nozzle needle for injecting fuel into a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine, as well as an output stage component. A desired signal is specified for a lift characteristic of the nozzle needle. The injector is activated by the output stage component. A lift signal is ascertained that corresponds to the actual lift characteristic of the nozzle needle. An actual signal is ascertained from the lift signal. A deviation signal is ascertained in response to a deviation of the actual signal from the desired signal.

  • Patent number: 8167066
Abstract: A method for setting operating states of an internal combustion engine, in particular an internal combustion engine of a hybrid drive. In addition to the internal combustion engine, the hybrid drive includes at least one electric drive, a hybrid coordinator and a control unit assigned to the internal combustion engine in which functions are implemented. The functions request operating states favorable to their running ability from the hybrid coordinator which performs a commensurate modification of the distribution of power between the internal combustion engine and the at least one electric drive.

  • Patent number: 8014933
Abstract: The invention deals with a method to determine the fuel composition of a fuel mixture from a first fuel and a second fuel for the operation of an internal combustion engine, wherein the first and the second fuel have different octane numbers and wherein the internal combustion engine has at least one knock sensor and a closed-loop knock control. Provision is made according to the invention for the composition of the fuel mixture to be determined by means of an output signal of the knock sensor. Provision is made in many cases for the knock sensor to already be in the internal combustion engine, so that it does not present any additional expenditure of money or effort. Because the octane number of the fuel mixture is determined by the mixing ratio of the fuels involved, which have different octane numbers, in retrospect the composition of the fuel mixture can be suggested from the signal of the knock sensor under suitable operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 7836865
Abstract: A method for starting an internal combustion engine that is operated with a fuel mixture made of at least two types of fuel. An injection of the fuel into combustion chambers of the internal combustion engine occurs starting at a predefined pressure threshold of the fuel in a fuel supply according to a high-pressure starting mode, and also according to a low-pressure starting mode if the predefined pressure threshold is no longer met. The pressure threshold is selected as a function of the mixture ratio of the fuel types in the fuel mixture. In this way it can be achieved that differences can be taken into consideration in the optimal mixture formation of the fuel types.

  • Patent number: 7225075
Abstract: A method for operating an injection valve of an internal combustion engine, whereby the metering of fuel is adjustable in particular by varying the stroke of the nozzle needle of the injection valve, makes it possible to prevent an incomplete closure of the valve due to soiling (the risk of damage caused by a gasoline-filled cylinder) in operating states of the internal combustion engine in which no complete strokes of the nozzle needle occur over a prolonged period of time and the nozzle is therefore not sufficiently scavenged. The nozzle is scavenged with fuel when a jammed-open operating state of the nozzle needle is detected.

  • Patent number: 7171952
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is operated according to a method, in which the fuel is pumped from a first fuel pump to a second fuel pump and from there into a high-pressure region. The fuel passes therefrom into at least one combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine, by means of at least one fuel injection device. In certain operating conditions of the internal combustion engine, the pressure in the high-pressure region is lowered by means of a release device. According to the invention, the reliability and security of operating the internal combustion engine may be increased by monitoring the functioning of the release device (58 through 68).

  • Patent number: 7089914
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine, in particular of a motor vehicle including at least one fuel pump delivers the fuel from a fuel tank into a fuel line. The pressure of the fuel, at least in a region of the fuel line, is increased as a function of an operating state. • Publication number: 20060116810
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for operating an injection valve of an internal combustion engine, whereby the metering of fuel is adjustable in particular by varying the stroke of the nozzle needle of the injection valve. Methods and injections valves of this type are generally known from the related art. The aim of the present invention is to provide a method which makes it possible to prevent an incomplete closure of the valve due to soiling (the risk of damage caused by a gasoline-filled cylinder) in operating states of the internal combustion engine in which no complete strokes of the nozzle needle occur over a prolonged period of time and the nozzle is therefore not sufficiently scavenged. According to the present invention, the nozzle is scavenged with fuel when a jammed-open operating state of the nozzle needle is detected.

  • Patent number: 7021261
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine, the fuel is conveyed by an electrically driven fuel pump. The intake side of this pump is connected to a fuel tank and its outlet side is connected to a pressure region. A prerun of the electrically driven fuel pump may be performed before the startup of the internal combustion engine. In order to increase the service life of the fuel pump, an actual pressure (pactual) in the pressure region may be detected by a pressure sensor and the execution of the prerun be a function of at least the signal of the pressure sensor.

  • Patent number: 6986339
Abstract: Method for operating an internal combustion engine in which fuel is injected into a combustion chamber by an injector. The injector has a drivable piezo-actuator. A setpoint value is generated for driving the piezo-actuator. A setpoint charge quantity (QCsetpoint) is determined from the setpoint value, and an actual charge quantity (QCactual) supplied to the piezo-actuator is determined. The setpoint charge quantity (QCsetpoint) and the actual charge quantity (QCactual) are combined, and the combined result (Son) acts upon the drive circuit of the piezo-actuator.

  • Patent number: 6973919
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine, the fuel reaches the combustion chamber of the engine via a fuel-injection device which includes a piezo actuator (50). In order to be able to optimally inject the fuel, it is suggested that the desired level (U_DES) of the drive energy (U) and/or the desired gradient (dU_DES) of the drive energy (U), with which the piezo actuator (50) is driven, is dependent upon a plurality of influence quantities (T, t, n, dx, dh) which influence the operating behavior of the piezo actuator (50).
