  • Patent number: 11725704
Abstract: A method for producing a brake disk for a wheel brake of a land vehicle includes laser depositing a duplex steel anti-corrosion layer to an axial friction side of a main body produced from gray cast iron at a surface speed of more than 10 m/min and applying an anti-abrasion layer to the anti-corrosion layer.

Date of Patent: August 15, 2023
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Marc Oliver Rettig, Jaroslaw Grochowicz, Tomasz Pawel Grabiec, Clemens Maria Verpoort, Andreas Wank, Alexander Hitzek, Christian Schmengler, Karin Müller-Roden, Klaus Kaesgen
  • Patent number: 11635117
Abstract: A process for producing a protective coating on a brake side of a brake disk main element includes using a laser powder build-up welding process. An NbC metal matrix powder or a Cr3C2 metal matrix powder is produced by agglomeration and sintering of NbC particles or Cr3C2 particles with particles of a metallic matrix composed of a stainless steel. During the laser powder build-up welding process, the NbC metal matrix powder or the Cr3C2 metal matrix powder and an aluminum alloy powder is supplied simultaneously to a molten surface region of the brake disk main element which has been melted by a laser.

  • Publication number: 20220235836
Abstract: A brake disk, the main body of which has been produced from gray cast iron, is coated on its annular brake surfaces with a metallic coating by way of laser deposition welding. In the coating, which includes a welding material with an austenitic structure or at least structural components, a state of internal compressive stress is set by plastic deformation which affects the external outer layer thereof and in one form is performed by a rolling tool.

  • Patent number: 11339841
Abstract: A brake disk for a wheel brake of a land vehicle includes a main body formed from gray cast iron. The main body has at least one axial friction side, at least one anti-corrosion layer applied to the axial friction side, and at least one anti-abrasion layer applied to the anti-corrosion layer. The anti-corrosion layer is a duplex steel layer that provides a cost-effective coating for the brake disk and enables improved corrosion resistance. The anti-abrasion layer is wear resistant and is provided by a SiC material containing at least one oxidic or metallic binder, or by an iron-based alloy having a vanadium carbide reinforcement, a niobium carbide reinforcement, a boron carbide reinforcement, a chromium carbide reinforcement or combinations thereof.
