Abstract: A distributed Internet Protocol communications network comprises a central control system comprising control processing means and at least one access point remote from the central control system for providing access to the packet based communications network. Under normal operating conditions the at least one access point is controlled by the control processing means. The network also comprises an emergency processing distinct from the central control system for controlling the at least one access point when there is a failure in the control processing means control of the at least one access point.

Abstract: An ATM communication system (KS) for the connection of ATM communication terminals (KE) is formed by a switching device (SB) and a control device (CB). In the switching device (SB), a transport program module (TSP), and also a dependability subprogram structure (DEP-SB), an operation subprogram structure (CP-SB) and a switching subprogram structure (AM-SB) and a message distribution program module (MD) are provided in a multi-tasking operating system (OSS). The control device (CB) has a multi-tasking operating system (OSC) with a transport program module (TSP), a process management program module (PVP), and also a switching program structure (CP), a dependability program structure (DEP), an operation program structure (AM) and a communication program structure (KMP).

Abstract: A data block protection information code word (BSI) is formed by division of a message polymonial representing a data bit sequence (D) by a generator polynomial representing a cyclical binary code. Registers are arranged in register chains in a coder unit provided for this purpose with a polynomial ordinal number being allocated to every register representing a member of the binary code. Given the presence of a term at the ordinal corresponding to the registers (R) of the respective register chains (RK) missing in the polynomial ordinal seris, a respective logic element (V) is inserted to which an operation information is supplied, said operation information being formed in a means for the formation of the operation information (EBV) by parallel processing of a plurality of data bits together with information at the outputs of the registers (R) corresponding to the highest polynomial ordinals.
