Patent number: 6296089Abstract: A locking device includes a cylinder chamber that is filled with a working medium and is divided by a piston into two working sections. A flow connection between the working sections is controlled by a check valve and a gate valve, which are arranged in parallel. When the check valve opens, dynamic pressure of the working fluid flowing through the check valve from one working section acts on a fluid contact surface of the gate valve and opens the gate valve. After it opens, the gate valve is kept in the open position by a pressure in a bypass past the check valve so that working fluid can thereafter flow through the fluid connection, regardless of the state of the check valve.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1999Date of Patent: October 2, 2001Assignee: Stabilus GmbHInventors: Klaus Koch, Rainer Sauer, Oliver Schüttler

Patent number: 6179099Abstract: A gas spring includes a cylinder containing a fluid at least part of which is a compressed gas. The cylinder receives a piston that is affixed to a piston rod and divides the cylinder into two working chambers. The piston has a one-way valve that is cycled in response to the direction of motion of the piston and pressure-control valve consisting of a spring and a valve body. In a partial stroke region of the piston a bypass allows fluid flow past the one-way valve and the pressure-control valve. The partial stroke region is adjoined by a bypass-free stroke region, the gas spring being arrested in the bypass-free stroke region. The spring of the pressure-control valve has a temperature-dependent elastic force, the elastic force of the spring increasing with increasing operating temperature, owing to which the compressive force necessary for opening the pressure-control valve increases to an equal extent.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1998Date of Patent: January 30, 2001Assignee: Stabilus GmbHInventors: Klaus Koch, Rainer Sauer, Oliver Sch{umlaut over (u)}ttler

Patent number: 6016734Abstract: A food slicing machine including a housing and a disc-shaped knife which is mounted for rotation on the housing. An adjusting device moves a stop plate relative to the cutting plane of the knife to set the slice thickness. A food carriage reciprocates adjacent the knife and is pivotable between a slice cutting position and a fully retracted position. A locking disc is connected to the adjusting device and includes a slot of uniform width extending from the periphery in a generally radial direction. A locking element which is slightly smaller than the slot is arranged to enter the slot responsive to pivoting of the carriage out of the slice cutting position. Upon setting the adjusting device to a slice thickness of zero, the slot is aligned with the locking element. A relatively small amount of pivoting of the carriage from the slice cutting position toward the fully retracted position causes the locking element to enter the slot and prevent substantial rotation of the adjusting device in either direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1997Date of Patent: January 25, 2000Inventor: Klaus Koch

Patent number: 5988608Abstract: A piston-cylinder unit includes a piston which divides the cylinder into two working chambers, a sealing valve seals a flow path between the two working chambers in the stationary operating condition of the unit. The sealing valve has a valve element consisting of an axially movable radially sealing sealing ring in conjunction with a valve ring, which at its back is supported by a spring-biased member. The slide member and the valve ring form therebetween a flow-off chamber having a flow-off opening that is sized so that unrestricted fluid flow is permitted so as to prevent the formation of a ram pressure in the flow-off chamber. The sealing ring is movable between three axial positions relative to the valve ring. At a center position, the sealing ring seals the flow path against fluid flow. At the two other positions, the sealing ring permits fluid flow in opposite directions.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1998Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Stabilus GmbHInventor: Klaus Koch

Patent number: 5799759Abstract: A positioning element to position two objects which are movable in relation to one another includes a cylinder in which there is an axially movable piston rod with a piston. The piston sealingly divides the cylinder into two working chambers by a piston ring, each of the working chambers containing blocking medium. The sealing by the piston ring can be bypassed during an insertion stroke of the piston rod. The piston includes a piston base body and a valve element, the valve element being movable along the base body to open and close a flow connection between the working chambers. An external opening force can displace the valve element to open the flow connection and permit an automatic extension stroke of the piston rod. The valve element remains open during the extension stroke on account of the flow of blocking medium through the flow connection. The valve element can be displaced to close the flow connection in response to stopping the extension stroke of the piston rod to position the two objects.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1997Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Assignee: Stabilus GmbHInventor: Klaus Koch
