  • Patent number: 8814014
Abstract: A vehicle article carrier system for clamping a roof rail to a roof of a vehicle. The system enables a variation in the spacing between an outer layer of the roof and an underlying roof structure to be taken up when clamping a roof rail to the vehicle roof without causing deformation of the outer layer of the vehicle roof.

  • Patent number: 6592176
Abstract: A roof component adapted to be secured to a vehicle body which includes a pair of roof rails secured to a roof module such that the roof component forms a single piece component. The roof module, in one embodiment, includes a openings for receiving therethrough each outermost end of each roof rail. The outermost ends are secured to separate body pillars of the vehicle body. The roof rail is secured by welding, adhesives or by threaded fasteners to the roof module. The roof component thus forms a modular component of the vehicle and eliminates the need for attaching the roof rail components in a subsequent manufacturing step after the assembly of the vehicle is completed.

  • Patent number: 5893499
Abstract: A roof railing for motor vehicles which has a tubular rail extending spaced from and substantially parallel to the roof surface along a lateral roof frame. Two supports on the ends of the rail attach the roof railing to the roof of the vehicle. The rail is developed with a bend at each of its end regions. It also has free ends which extend parallel to the surface of the roof and rest on the roof. In the region of each bend, there extends below the rail a support which is fastened to the rail. On its top side, the support has a groove which surrounds a part of the circumference of the rail. Each support is fastened to the roof of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5573159
Abstract: A roof railing having a rail with opposite ends and a respective support foot on each end. The support foot is a tubular extruded profile shaped to have a downwardly descending curved part which leads into a flat support surface that is below and parallel to the rail. A flattened wall region of the extruded profile rests on the top of the support surface. A hole through the support surface and the flattened wall region receives a fastening element. A cover cap over the support foot includes a web over the top and side legs down from the web and the cover cap is clipped to the support foot and may be pivoted to be upraised with respect to the support foot.

  • Patent number: 5497925
Abstract: A roof rack for a vehicle having two parallel rail tubes. Each rail tube is a hollow tube supported at its end regions by respective support feet fastenable to the roof surface. Each support foot includes a metal adapter with a plate on the vehicle roof and an upstanding adapter support to be fastened to the rail tube. A threaded plate is disposed in the tube at each adapter support for the adapter so that a fastening bolt can extend through the adapter, through a hole in the tube and into the fastening plate in the tube for securing the tube to the adapter. An additional resilient washer at the plate of the adapter at the roof of the vehicle. A third foot between the end regions of the rail tube may also be provided.

  • Patent number: 5400938
Abstract: A roof load carrier for a vehicle having a roof rail with an upper support surface and an inner channel which opens toward the top of the rail. The channel opening is formed by inwardly directed flanges. A transverse bar is arranged adjustably along the roof rail by a support foot. A fastening device for the foot includes a clamping plate disposed in the channel of the rail and a bolt in threaded engagement in the plate. Holes in the roof rail extend in a row parallel to the channel. The support foot has a securing pin which extends parallel to the threaded shank of the bolt, and the pin can be inserted into one of the holes in the rail to fix the location of the support foot and thus of the transverse bar along the rail.

  • Patent number: 5377890
Abstract: A roof rack for vehicles having two rails and support feet bearing the rails. Each rail is developed as a hollow profile with a longitudinal channel which is open on the top and has undercuts. On each rail there is optionally arranged a profiled cover strip which can be detachably anchored in the longitudinal channel and extends over the length of the rail, or a profiled cover strip which extends over a first part of the length of the rail and a profiled support strip which extends over the second part of the length. The profiled support strips are anchored such that they can be swung into a position of use which connects the rails transversely to each other.
