Patent number: 7854883Abstract: A system for cooling a hot rail of rail steel to a fine perlitic or ferritic or perlitic/ferritic structure has a plurality of separate cooling modules with independently adjustable cooling parameters. The rail is guided downstream through the modules of the cooling stretch and through intermediate zones between the modules so as to cool the surface of the rail in each of the modules and to subject the rail to destressing or stress relief between the modules. Sensors in each of the intermediate zones detect the actual surface temperature of the rail in the respective zones, and a controller connected to the modules and to the sensors varies the cooling parameters of the cooling modules in dependence on the detected temperatures in the respective upstream zones to ensure a defined temperature in the rail that lies above a critical temperature at which bainitic structure components are formed.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2007Date of Patent: December 21, 2010Assignee: SMS Meer GmbHInventors: Klaus Kueppers, Meinert Meyer, Thomas Nerzak, Uwe Plociennik

Patent number: 7770838Abstract: The invention relates to a method of releasing a reel awe, which is hydraulically restrained by a self-locking effect by means of inwardly located wedge surfaces of expansion elements. Removal of a coil from a reel awe is achieved, without problems, by lifting off the self-locking effect of the expansion elements at least partially or completely by applying longitudinal vibrations acting in an axial direction. The invention also relates to a correspondingly formed device.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2005Date of Patent: August 10, 2010Assignee: SMS Siemag AktiengesellschaftInventors: Uwe Plociennik, Klaus Küeppers, Meinert Meyer, Georg Rebel

Patent number: 7429232Abstract: A method for controlling a drive train of a motor vehicle, to a method for controlling a clutch device, and to a drive train of a motor vehicle, the drive train being operated in a normal load operation, in which the internal combustion engine moves the motor vehicle against the resistances opposing the movement of a motor vehicle, the play in the load direction pre-determined by the rotary direction of the motor output shaft being closed. The drive train (40) operating outside normal load operation is operated under pre-determined conditions in a second operating mode in which a first load is introduced into a drive train section, causing the play at the drive-end of the load introduction point to be closed or to remain closed, the first load being such that it would not be sufficient to overcome the resistances opposing the movement of the motor vehicle in the plane.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2007Date of Patent: September 30, 2008Assignee: LuK Lamellen und Kupplungsbau Beteiligungs KGInventor: Klaus Kuepper

Patent number: 7037239Abstract: A method for automatically adjusting slip in an automatic friction clutch arranged between an engine and a gearbox of a motor vehicle. The clutch has a clutch-adjusting positioning drive which adjusts the clutch to a position which is defined by a position set-point signal. The clutch input speed and the clutch output speed are detected using speed sensors and a position set-point signal is produced according to the difference of the speeds (slip speed). The slip speed is equal to a predefined set slip value and is used as a control variable for the transmitted clutch torque. An engine torque is used as a control variable for the clutch instead of the clutch torque or as a complement thereto.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2004Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Assignee: LuK Lamellen und Kupplungsbau Beteiligungs KGInventors: Olaf Werner, Thorsten Krause, Klaus Kuepper
