  • Patent number: 5981184
Abstract: A screening-model is disclosed for determining the inhibiting effect of substances on the P-type ATP-ase activity of Helicobacter. The screening model in question comprises: (a) a recombinant organism consisting of host cells transformed with at least one P-type ATP-ase gene which can be controlled via a promoter; (b) an inductor for gene activation of the P-type ATP-ase; (c) cations which inhibit the metabolic activity of the recombinant organism only in the presence of Helicobacter P-type ATP-ase; and (d) a measurement device for determining the metabolic activity of the recombinant organism.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 2, 1997
Date of Patent: November 9, 1999
Assignee: Byk Gulden Lomberg Chemische Fabrik GmbH
    Inventor: Klaus Melchers
  • Patent number: 5942409
Abstract: The present invention provides a screening process for the identification of anti-helicobactericidal substances modulating ureI dependent mechanisms of gastric Helicobacter metabolism. Gastric Helicobacter cells are treated with a substance to be tested for modulating ureI dependent mechanisms of gastric Helicobacter metabolism and gastric Helicobacter acid resistance or sensitivity to urea is determined.

Date of Patent: August 24, 1999
Assignee: Byk Gulden Lomberg Chemische Fabrik GmbH
    Inventors: George Sachs, Klaus Melchers
  • Patent number: 5874406
Abstract: Polypeptide analogs of human the human lung surfactant protein, SP-C, are provided. The polypeptides have the following structure: ##STR1## wherein A is H or Phe, B is Phe or Trp, and C is Ile, Leu, or Ser. They exhibit surfactant activity and are useful in the treatment of respiratory distress syndromes in premature infants and adults.
