  • Patent number: 5385656
Abstract: A process for producing a gravel-impact-resistant multicoat lacquer finish by cathodic electrodeposition of a primer on an electrically conductive substrate, subsequent application of a primer surfacer coat of an aqueous paste filler that contains one or several water-dilutable binders that are curable at temperatures up to 180.degree. C., with subsequent application of one or several base coats and finishing coats. To produce the primer surfacer coat, an aqueous paste filler is used that contains 0.1-20 wt % polyamide powder, polyacrylonitrile powder or mixtures thereof with particle diameters in the range 0.1-100 .mu.m, wherein the high-solid value of the aqueous paste filler is not less than 75 wt %.

  • Patent number: 4968536
Abstract: An ecologically acceptable process is provided for the production of a chip resistant coating finishes by application of a chip resistant intermediate coating layer said coating comprising an aqueous based composition containing from 30 to 60% by weight carboxyl-containing polyesters or (meth)acrylates and copolymers thereof with vinyl compounds having an average acid value of 30 to 100 mg KOH/g and an average OH value of 50 to 250 mg KOH/g, neutralized with nitrogen bases, 5 to 25% by weight of a water-soluble or water-dispersible, blocked isocyanate prepolymer, 15 to 30% by weight water and @0 to 50% by weight pigments, fillers and/or auxililaries and additives, wet-in-wet overcoating with an aqueous filler, common stoving and painting with an aqueous based finishing paint. The chip resistant coatings are aqueous (water) based and essentially free of ecologically contaminating volatile organic solvents.

  • Patent number: 4543375
Abstract: Process for producing storable concentrates for producing paints containing water, undissolved, finely divided, as well as dissolved synthetic resins as paint binders, pigments, optionally paint additives and organic solvents by wet grinding in several stages, wherein(a) in a first grinding stage the undissolved synthetic resins, whereof at least 80% by weight are present with a particle size between 500 .mu.m and 20 mm, mixed with water, the solids content representing 30 to 70% by weight, based on the total mixture quantity, as well as 0 to 60% by weight of dissolved ionic synthetic resins (solids) are ground to a particle size of less than 200 .mu.m and preferably less than 100 .mu.m, and(b) 40 to 100% by weight of the dissolved ionic synthetic resins (solids) and pigments are added and the mixture is ground in a second grinding stage until 95% of all the particles have a particle size of less than 15 .mu.m.
