  • Patent number: 5634606
Abstract: A press-on roller which is usable to press a first paper web into contact with a second paper web includes a support tube and a resilient press-on sleeve which is concentric with the support tube and separated from it by an annular space. This annular space is provided with at least one and preferably with a plurality of gas-filled cells. These gas filled cells provide the press-on roller with a controllable resiliency.

  • Patent number: 5562038
Abstract: A bidirectional pivot frame of a paper web changing device is supported for pivotal motion about a selected one of two pivot axes. The support for the pivot frame is accomplished by slidable locking supports that positively lock one set of pivot pins in place in guide slots in the side frames of the paper web changing device, while releasing a second set of guide pins. The slidable locking supports are shiftable to selectively positively lock the desired set of guide pins in place.

  • Patent number: 5497659
Abstract: A roll support for a web fed rotary printing press supports a supply roll of a material web between clamping cones carried at free ends of support arm pairs. An array of strain gauges are attached either to the support arms or to a force measuring bushing for the clamping cones and are used to provide values indicative of the weight or bearing force of the supply roll. These values can be used to determine the amount of material remaining on the supply roll or to determine a weight imbalance in the supply roll.

  • Patent number: 5423496
Abstract: A device for connecting paper webs in a web-fed rotary printing press utilizes a pivotable support frame to move a paper web tension compensation device into a position against the paper web prior to a flying web splice. An upper roller on the compensation device applies pressure to the depleting web to adhere it to the new web while a lower roller on the compensation device moves away from the new paper roll to maintain the effective travel path of the depleting web constant so that the web's tension remains the same and the web does not elongate.

  • Patent number: 5354006
Abstract: A paper web supply assembly utilizes a pair of paper roll support arm assemblies to hold two paper rolls. Two gluing carriages are carried by side plates of the press and each of these carriages is movable toward and away from a receiving rod that supports a corresponding paper roll. The gluing carriage is used to position a paper web from a fresh paper roll to accomplish a flying web splice.

  • Patent number: 4720195
Abstract: An agitator of impeller shape includes an agitator hub with a plurality of radially extending arms for attachment to a drive shaft for the mixing of substances in vessels, such as substances that tend to material build-up, incrustation and/or incipient polymerization. The hub is totally closed by welding a cap over the end of the hub. At least one of the agitator arms is formed of two components, a shorter stub arm attached to the hub and longer main arm. Both components are formed of a pair of parallel, spaced apart tubes connected by a pair of webs. Each tube includes a bushing for retaining a centering bolt to attach the main portion to the stub portion. The two components are then welded together and polished to remove any gaps and sharp edges.
