  • Patent number: 6086974
Abstract: A horizontal magnetic recording medium that has as its magnetic film a granular film with grains of a chemically-ordered FePt or FePtX (or CoPt or CoPtX) alloy in the tetragonal L1.sub.0 structure uses an etched seed layer beneath the granular film. The granular magnetic film reveals a very high magnetocrystalline anisotropy within the individual grains. The film is produced by sputtering from a single alloy target or cosputtering from several targets. The granular structure and the chemical ordering are controlled by means of sputter parameters, e.g., temperature and deposition rate, and by the use of the etched seed layer that provides a structure for the subsequently sputter-deposited granular magnetic film. The structure of the seed layer is obtained by sputter etching, plasma etching, ion irradiation, or laser irradiation. The magnetic properties, i.e., H.sub.c and areal moment density M.sub.

  • Patent number: 6076568
Abstract: A method for inerting a generator in a power station includes flushing the generator in a rapid manner which is favorable in terms of power consumption and is simplified in terms of process technology. Cooling gas which is present in the working state for cooling in the generator is displaced through the use of an inert gas stored in gaseous form, in particular argon. A phase transition from, for example, a liquid to a gaseous inert gas, which prolongs the inerting operation and consumes large amounts of power, can thus be dispensed with. The supply of inert gas can easily be monitored by pressure measurement.

  • Patent number: 5900728
Abstract: An alternating current (AC) magnetic force microscopy (MFM) system incorporates an improved probe with an integrated coil on the free end of the system's cantilever. The probe has a pair of magnetic poles that form part of a magnetic yoke and a patterned electrically conductive coil wound through the yoke. The probe includes a probe tip that has a magnetic surface layer that is magnetically coupled to one of the poles and extends from it. When alternating current from the AC-MFM system is passed through the probe coil the magnetization direction of the probe tip correspondingly alternates. The interaction of these alternating magnetic fields from the probe tip with the magnetic fields emanating from the sample whose magnetic fields are to be measured causes the cantilever to deflect between two extreme positions.

  • Patent number: 5582383
Abstract: An interior rearview mirror for a vehicle. The mirror includes a mirror bracket that by means of a ball-and-socket joint carries a mirror housing that is provided with a mirror glass mounted on a glass carrier that together with the housing can be shifted between a first position and a second position by a knob. The glass carrier is pivotably connected to a support, and a swivel plate is fixedly connected to the knob. A guide pin is disposed on the swivel plate and engages a guide of the support for interconnecting the support and the swivel plate. A stop is disposed on the swivel plate and in one of the positions of the glass carrier rests against the outer surface of the guide.

  • Patent number: 4798410
Abstract: A lifting sliding roof for a vehicle having a cover that is inserted into a cover opening and that, starting from a closed position, while lifting its rear edge, is tiltable into a tilted position and in this position is moved over the fixed part of the roof toward the rear into an open position. When the cover is lifted but rests against a front edge of the roof opening, air can flow via lateral gap areas and a rear gap area between the cover and the roof into the passenger compartment, but when the cover is tilted and is pushed to the rear at least partially, a sealing frame is provided that closes off the lateral gap areas and the rear gap area so that in this cover position, the air reaches the passenger compartment only through the area of the roof opening that is located in front of the cover.
