  • Publication number: 20080021167
Abstract: Sulfonated graft copolymer obtained by radical graft copolymerization of one or more synthetic monomers in the presence of hydroxyl-containing naturally derived materials. The graft copolymer includes 0.1 to 100 wt %, based on weight of the total synthetic monomers, of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer having a sulfonic acid group, monoethylenically unsaturated sulfuric acid ester or salt thereof, with the monomer and hydroxyl-containing naturally derived materials present in a weight ratio of 5:95 to 95:5.

  • Publication number: 20080020961
Abstract: Low molecular weight graft copolymer comprising a synthetic component formed from at least one or more olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomers or salts thereof, and a natural component formed from a hydroxyl-containing natural moiety. The number average molecular weight of the graft copolymer is about 100,000 or less, and the weight percent of the natural component in the graft copolymer is about 50 wt % or greater based on total weight of the graft copolymer. Processes for preparing such graft copolymers are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20070173554
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for making polystyrene foam which utilizes one or more atmospheric gases, particularly CO2, as the blowing agent in combination with a polymer processing aid (PPA), typically an ester that is relatively non-volatile at the extrusion temperature range. The blowing agent and the PPA may both be introduced into the molten thermoplastic polystyrene resin or the PPA may be incorporated in the solid source polystyrene resins. The resulting foam will be substantially free of residual blowing agent and dimensionally stable at ambient temperatures.

  • Publication number: 20070021577
Abstract: Hybrid copolymers for use as anti-scalant and dispersant. The polymers are useful in compositions used in aqueous systems. The polymers include at least one synthetic monomeric constituent that is chain terminated by a naturally occurring hydroxyl containing moiety. A process for preparing these hybrid copolymers is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20070015678
Abstract: Modified polysaccharide polymers for use as anti-scalant and dispersant. The polymers are useful in compositions used in aqueous systems. The modified polysaccharides are also useful in detergent formulations, water treatment, dispersants and oilfield applications and as fiberglass binders. Such applications include a modified polysaccharide having up to about 70 mole % carboxyl groups per mole of polysaccharide ASU and up to about 20 mole % aldehyde groups per mole of polysaccharide ASU. The applications can also include a blend of modified polysaccharides and other synthetic polymers.

  • Publication number: 20060121201
Abstract: Nonwoven mat formed from fibrous substances and a binder composition having a copolymer with acid and hydroxyl, amide or amine functionality. The invention also relates to the use of polyamines as crosslinkers for a polymer binder. The binder composition is especially useful for binding mineral fiber, and particularly as a fiberglass binder. The binder composition provides a strong yet flexible bond that allows a compressed fiberglass mat to easily expand once the compression is released.

  • Publication number: 20050245428
Abstract: Hydroscopic polymer gels can be formed by applying a polymer to a surface and allowing water to be sequestered from the atmosphere into the polymer. The polymer gels are formed using methods and compositions employing water soluble or water dispersible copolymers having: (i) a first monomer that is acidic and is capable of forming an anionic charge in the composition; (ii) a second monomer that is amphipathic; (iii) optionally, a third monomer that is hydrophobic; and (iv) optionally, a fourth monomer that that has a permanent cationic charge or that is capable of forming a cationic charge on protonation. The polymer gels are particularly substantive and effective at modifying surfaces such as glass and hydrophobic polymeric substrates to provide soap scum and soil resistance, and easier next time cleaning benefits.
