  • Patent number: 5651566
Abstract: A contoured-part arrangement (10) at a wheel cut-out of a car, which extends along at least one third, preferably at least two thirds, of an edge (5) of the car body defining the wheel cut-out, protrudes outwardly, with an outer region (14) extending beyond the edge defining the wheel cut-out. The contoured-part arrangement is composed of strip-shaped sections (11, 12, 13) made from deformable material which are arranged with their adjacent ends overlapping one another and which have, in a direction of their longitudinal extension, a pre-formed curvature, a curvature center line being essentially parallel to a rotational axis of the associated wheel (1).

  • Patent number: 5048868
Abstract: In a mud-flap attachment for the detachable connection of the attachment region of a mud-flap (3) which rests on the fender fold (2), which mud-flap has a main flap body (4) and an extension thereof which forms an adapter protrusion (5) which has an attachment region. A clamp is used which has a first clamping part (10, 110) which is connected with a second clamping part (6, 106) via two screws (11, 12) spaced apart in the longitudinal extension of the attachment region. The side of the clamping part forming the clamp opening has a central recess facing away from the screws (11, 12). The sides of recess are formed by two clamping projections (13, 14). Two corner angle parts (17, 18) of the free ends (15, 16) of the clamping projection are angled towards the clamping part (10, 110). The distance from the associated screw (11) to the free end (15) of the upper clamping projection is less than the corresponding distance of the other clamping projection.

  • Patent number: 4629204
Abstract: A mud flap member with a main flap body and an adapter protrusion extending from the upper end of the main flap body is fixed to a motor vehicle body by a portion of its adapter protrusion in such a way that between the motor vehicle body and the adapter protrusion gaps are formed which are too large to substantially retain water therein by capillary action. These gaps are created by providing projections on the surface of that portion of the adapter protrusion in contact with the motor vehicle body or interposing a spacer having such projections between the mud flap and the motor vehicle body.

  • Patent number: 4621824
Abstract: An elongated moulding made from rubber, plastic, etc. is cross-sectionally provided with a leg (12) for arrangement between a mud flap (5) and the fender fold (3) of a motor vehicle, and which mud flap (5) has a main flap body (6) and an adapting protrusion (7) connected to the top thereof. A widened material portion (11) is connected to the leg (12). The leg (12), which is to be arranged between the mud flap (5) and the fender fold (3), has notches (13) extending from the free longitudinal edges (17) to the transition area with the widened material portion (11), and these notches extend at right angles to the free longitudinal edge (17). In the fitted state, the widened material portion (11) engages on the vehicle body area adjacent to the fender fold (3).

  • Patent number: 4505010
Abstract: A spring clip particularly suitable for fixing a mud-flap to a motor vehicle has two legs interconnected by means of a base and is so formed that when relaxed the legs converge towards their free ends. A threaded bore is provided in one of the legs, in which may be threaded a screw to contact the other leg, such that the two legs may be thrust apart on further turning of the screw. The clip may then be fitted over a fender-fold against which a portion of a mud-flap lies, such that the mud-flap is securely held thereby. The leg contacted by the screw-end may have a contact depression formed therein to receive the screw-end, to prevent wandering thereof. In an alternative embodiment, a separate U-shaped expanding tool is provided, one leg of which may engage one leg of the clip, and the other leg of which has a threaded bore in which a screw can be fitted, such that the screw may engage the other leg of the clip.

  • Patent number: 4323262
Abstract: There is provided a combination of a universal mudguard for motor vehicles and at least one clamp for attaching the flap to the fender fold of the vehicle. The mudguard comprises a main body flap, an adapter protrusion at the top thereof to align the mudguard flap with the contours of the vehicle chassis, and an upper edge on the main body flap which joins with an inner edge of the adapter protrusion. The clamp has an open end, which is engageable with the said upper edge of the main body flap and an adjacent portion of the fender fold, and a closed end spaced from the open end. The improvement in the clamp is that of having generally two parallel clamping jaws held together by at least one bolt, the closed end having a crosspiece projecting from one of the jaws and abutting the other jaw, and at least one jaw at the open end having at least one bent over corner end area wherein the direction of the bend is toward the other jaw.

  • Patent number: 4315634
Abstract: A mudguard flap for attachment to a motor vehicle is provided having a flap main body and an adapter protrusion disposed upwardly from the flap main body. The adapter protrusion has a mounting area for attaching the flap to a fender-fold and for adjusting the flap to the chassis of a motor vehicle. In the present invention the adapter protrusion has a bending line thereon, which bending line follows generally the contour of the vehicle chassis in the vicinity of the place of attachment of the mudguard flap. The mounting area is bent along the bending line and is displaced from the plane of the unbent portion of the adapter protrusion to provide a bent angle of inclination, which when the mudguard flap is attached to the fender-fold results in the unbent portion of the adapter protrusion and the flap main body being at least generally parallel with the axis of the wheel.

  • Patent number: 4273349
Abstract: There is provided a flexible mud flap for securing to a fender of a vehicle comprising a main body portion with lower inside, outside and upper edges. An additional body portion is disposed above the main body portion and has a generally parabolically curved edge such that the vertex of the parabola lies on the upper edge of the main body portion and the distance between the vertex and the inside edge of the main body portion is approximately 0.3 to 0.4 of the distance between the inside and outside edges of the main body portion. The thus provided shape of the mud flap is universally securable to modern fenders, both back and rear fenders, while at the same time avoiding uncovered portions of the fender which will allow mud to be passed therethrough.

  • Patent number: 3953053
Abstract: A mud flap for a fender of a vehicle having a web integral with an upwardly extending projection for securing the mud flap to a fender. A reinforcing metallic element is provided on the projection for mounting the mud flap on the fender so that it depends therefrom vertically regardless of the curvature of the fender. The reinforcing element is bent relative to the plane of the mud flap to position the mud flap on the fender so that it depends vertically. The reinforcing element or a pair of jaws or clamps may be used to secure the mud flap to a fender or car body.
