  • Patent number: 8298396
Abstract: The invention is directed to processes and apparatuses for the production of chemical compounds, in particular fermentation products. According to the invention there is provided a process for the production of one or more chemical substances, which process comprises a fermentation step, wherein said substances are formed; and a separation step, wherein at least one pair of electrodes is used to induce a precipitation of said substances, which pair comprises at least one precipitation electrode and at least one counter electrode, through which an electric current is directed is used to precipitate said one or more substances.

  • Publication number: 20110059498
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing electricity and conversion products such as ethanol, comprising the steps of: i) separating a starch source into a starch-rich fraction and a residual fraction; ii) heating the starch-rich fraction for the purpose of gelling the starch; iii) releasing the gelled starch from the starch-rich fraction; iva) converting the gelled starch enzymatically into sugars; ivb) converting the sugars fermentatively into the conversion products; v) further processing the conversion products from the conversion medium; vi) generating biogas from residual fraction; vii) generating electricity and heat from biogas and/or residual fraction via cogeneration of heat and electricity; and viii) using the generated heat in one or more steps i) to vi).

  • Patent number: 7507391
Abstract: Sulphur oxides are generated from a liquid stream of hydrogen sulphide by feeding the liquid stream to a vacuum stripper where the stream is contacted with a stripping gas including steam under reduce pressure. Hydrogen sulphide is transferred to the stripping gas, whereby a loaded stripping gas is obtained. Water in the loaded stripping gas is condensed producing a H2S rich stream. The H2S is then burned in the stream to produce a stream rich in oxides of sulphur.

  • Patent number: 7442359
Abstract: The invention is directed to a process for the recovery of sulphuric acid from a mixture comprising sulphuric acid and hydrocarbons, in particular carbohydrates. In accordance with the present invention the mixture comprising sulphuric acid and carbohydrates, is contacted with an anion selective membrane, thus producing a sulphuric acid rich filtrate stream and a stream depleted in sulphuric acid.
