  • Patent number: 5357658
Abstract: A buckle apparatus includes a buckle body, a tongue plate, a lock plate supported by the buckle body, and being swingable between a first position for engaging the tongue plate and a second position for releasing the engagement, a lock pin moving in the tongue plate removal direction so as to prevent the lock plate from swinging toward the second position and moving in the tongue plate insertion direction so as to allow the lock plate to swing toward the second position, a release button pressing the holder so as to move the lock pin, teeth provided on the cover of the buckle body, and an engaging member being separated from the teeth in a state where the holder is in contact with the release button and engaging tile teeth so as to prevent the holder from moving in a state where the holder is separated from the release button.

  • Patent number: 5314138
Abstract: A preloader for use in a webbing retractor for retracting an occupant-restraining webbing onto a webbing takeup shaft, and adapted to allow a webbing to be applied to a vehicle occupant with appropriate tightness. An engaging shaft is coaxially coupled with the takeup shaft, and a rotating drum is disposed around the engaging shaft at a fixed distance from the engaging shaft. The rotating drum is held by a plate, and a wire is tightly wound around the outer periphery of the rotating drum. A clamp member is disposed swingably in a direction in which the clamp member engages the webbing and in a direction in which the clamp member moves away therefrom. An urging member is provided for constantly urging the clamp member in a webbing-clamping direction. A trigger member is disposed between the clamp member and the plate, and holds the clamp member in spaced-apart relationship with the webbing.

  • Patent number: 5121528
Abstract: A buckle device is provided, for use with a seatbelt system of a vehicle, into which a tongue plate is inserted for engagements with a lock member, and which has in addition to the lock member with which the tongue plate engages when it is inserted into the buckle device to a predetermined depth, and which is urged at all times in the direction of engagement with the tongue plate, an ejector for urging said tongue plate in the direction of withdrawal from said buckle device, and a preventing member for preventing the lock member from moving into the insertion path of the tongue plate until the tongue plate reaches the predetermined engagement position.

  • Patent number: 5119532
Abstract: A buckle apparatus comprises a buckle body into which a tongue plate is inserted, and a lock plate with which the tongue plate is engaged and locked. The buckle body is provided with an opening through which a portion of the lock plate is passed in a condition of the tongue plate locked to the lock plate, so that when a load larger than a predetermined value is applied in a direction of withdrawal of the tongue plate in such locked condition, at least a portion of the lock plate is moved in the tongue plate withdrawal direction. Such portion of the lock plate is provided with a projection which is adapted to be brought into engagement with an edge of the opening by the movement of such portion, thereby inhibiting the movement of the lock plate in a direction to release the tongue plate-locked condition. Therefore, even if a load larger than a predetermined value is applied to the tongue plate in the locked condition, the tongue plate cannot be disengaged from the buckle apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5086548
Abstract: A buckle device for a car seatbelt system is used together with a plurality of tongue plates to which occupant securing webbings are connected. Lock members for engaging the tongue plates are released upon operating a single release button. The shifting direction of the release button is confined in a plane defined by the insertion directions of the tongue plates. The operation force of the release button is transmitted to the lock members via a mechanism for example cam-contact or link mechanism. Therefore, the operation necessary for a passenger at the time of release is only to push the release button. There is no need to hold or pinch the buckle device at any time.

  • Patent number: 5054171
Abstract: A buckle device for use in vehicle seat belt system having a tongue plate and a buckle body into which the tongue plate is inserted for engagement therewith includes a lock member which is swung to engage the inserted tongue plate and is adapted to lock the tongue plate, a release button moved by the operation of a vehicle occupant to swing the lock member in an opposite direction, thereby cancelling engagement between the lock member and the tongue plate, and an emergency lock mechanism for holding the lock member in a state of engagement with the tongue plate when an inertial force acts in an operating direction of the release button. Accordingly, the disengagement between the tongue plate and the lock member due to the inertial force is prevented, and the state of engagement between the two members is maintained.

  • Patent number: 5029770
Abstract: A webbing retractor wherein a take-up shaft supporting a webbing worn by a seat occupant of a vehicle is rotated in a webbing taking-up direction by an urging force of a take-up mechanism connected to the take-up shaft. The rotation of the take-up shaft in a webbing drawing-out direction is stopped upon detection of a predetermined acceleration of the vehicle, whereupon the take-up shaft is moved by the webbing drawing-out force to lock an intermediate portion of the webbing drawn out from the take-up shaft. The take-up shaft and the take-up mechanism are connected together via a pair of mutually meshing gears. One of the gears is moved together with the take-up shaft in a state in which its engagement with the other gear is maintained when the take-up shaft is moved. Accordingly, the take-up mechansim is not moved when the take-up shaft is moved.

  • Patent number: 4998328
Abstract: A buckle device of the type into which a tongue plate is inserted and engaged therewith. The buckle device is equipped with a lever member having a first and a second end as well as a middle section. The first end of the lever member is engaged with a locking member, which is to be engaged with the inserted tongue plate to prevent it from being extracted from the buckle device. When the second end of the lever member is depressed, the lever member is displaced, using its middle section as the fulcrum, to release the engagement between the buckle device and the tongue plate. This lever member is equipped with a displacement section for displacing the fulcrum from the side of the first end to that of the second end when the second end is depressed. Thus, when the second end is depressed, the fulcrum of the lever member is displaced toward the second end, thereby gradually diminishing the lever ratio of the lever member.

  • Patent number: 4955115
Abstract: A buckle device in which a lock plate is moved by an urging force to be brought into engagement with a tongue plate or, in the state of engagement with the tongue plate, it is moved against the urging force by the operation of a release button to be disengaged from the tongue plate. Stoppers are provided which can be selectively moved during engagement of the tongue plate between inhibition positions, at which they inhibit the above operation of the operation member and also inhibit the lock plate from moving in the direction of movement for disengaging from the tongue plate, and allowance positions at which they allow the above operation of the operation member and also allow the lock plate to disengage from the tongue plate. When maintained at the inhibition position, the stoppers prevent the operation of the operation member and disengagement of the lock plate and the tongue plate.

  • Patent number: 4646400
Abstract: A buckle apparatus employed in a seatbelt system for a vehicle is engaged with a tongue plate attached to one end portion of an occupant restraining webbing. The apparatus includes a pair of plate-like buckle bodies which are disposed substantially parallel to each other so that it is possible for a plurality of tongue plates to be inserted into the space defined between the pair of buckle bodies. The tongue plates are engageable with respective lock plates mounted on the buckle bodies. An engagement projection which projects from one of the buckle bodies is received in an engagement recess formed in the other buckle body, whereby the movement of the relative positions of the buckle bodies is limited. The plurality of lock plates are simultaneously disengaged from the respective tongue plates by actuating a single pushbutton, thereby allowing the tongue plates to be pulled out of the buckle bodies.
