  • Patent number: 4430477
Abstract: A propylene composition having a notably improved high-impact strength and elongation at break, with a relatively slight reduction in rigidity is provided, which composition is a high-impact polypropylene composition comprising 60 to 95 parts by weight of polypropylene and 40 to 5 parts by weight of a chlorinated polyolefin having styrene graft-polymerized thereon.

  • Patent number: 4323626
Abstract: The heat-adhesive fine composite fibers of the present invention have a denier within the range of 1-20, and consist of as a first component, a crystalline polypropylene and as a second component, an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, a saponification product thereof or a mixture of any of these materials with polyethylene, the content in said second component, of vinyl alcohol and/or vinyl acetate units based upon the total of vinyl acetate, vinyl alcohol and ethylene units being 0.5-18 mol %, and said second component forming at least one part of the fiber surface of said fibers. These fine composite fibers are superior in low temperature heat-adhesiveness, in adhesiveness with foreign raw materials, and in low crimpability. Further the fine composite fibers in which the second component has a specific density of 0.93 or less show almost no crimpability and are useful for wet-type non-woven fabrics. When a polypropylene having a Q value of 3.

  • Patent number: 4261373
Abstract: Molding tobacco filters having a variety of cross-sections which are practically useful in providing various preferable effects such as improvement in pressure drop, balanced adsorption of smoke component or the like, are provided according to a method which is characterized in forming fiber bundles of composite fibers consisting of a first and a second component by themselves, or a mixture of at least 20% by weight (based upon the total fiber mixture) of said composite fibers and another kind of fibers so as to give a variety of cross-sections to said fiber bundles, and subjecting said fiber bundles to heat-treatment at a temperature lower than the melting point of the first component but higher than the melting point of the second component to stabilize the structure by the self-adhesion of the second component; the first component of a fiber forming polymer and the second component consisting of one or more kinds of polymer having a melting point lower than that of the first component by 10.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4211819
Abstract: Heat-melt adhesive propylene polymer fibers which can be produced with a superior spinnability are provided, which comprise a resin consisting of (A) 50-100% by weight of a crystalline propylene terpolymer consisting of specified amounts of propylene, butene-1 and ethylene, and (B) 0-50% by weight of a substantially non-crystalline ethylene-propylene random copolymer; said fibers consisting of single fibers of said resin alone or composite fibers having said resin as one component thereof.

  • Patent number: 4173504
Abstract: Tobacco filters having uniform hardness and small pressure drop which give uniform flow of smoke can be obtained by forming bundles of fibers consisting of 20-100% by weight of composite fibers based upon the total amount of mixed fibers of said composite fibers and 80-0% of other fibers, subjecting said composite fibers to heat treatment at a temperature lower than the melting point of the first component and higher than the melting point of the second component and stabilizing said fiber bundles by the self adhesion of the second component, said composite fibers having side-by-side or sheath and core arrangement of the first component consisting mainly of crystalline polypropylene or propylene copolymer mainly of propylene and the second component consisting of (1) an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer having a vinyl acetate content of 0.
