Patent number: 12260886Abstract: Disclosed herein is a magnetic storage device that comprises a suspension arm co-movably fixed to a carriage arm. The suspension arm comprises a slider attachment side and at least one first electrical contact pad on the slider attachment side. The suspension arm also comprises a slider co-movably fixed to the suspension arm. The slider comprises a suspension attachment side, a non-head side facing the suspension arm and intersecting the suspension attachment side at a first slider edge of the slider, a head side facing away from the suspension arm, and at least one electrical contact component on the suspension attachment side up to the first slider edge. At least one solder weldment is directly coupled to the at least one first electrical contact pad and the at least one electrical contact component. Additionally, a read-write head is coupled to the head side of the slider.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2023Date of Patent: March 25, 2025Assignee: WESTERN DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Kohichiroh Naka, Yuhsuke Matsumoto, Hiroto Sato

Patent number: 11676628Abstract: A hard disk drive head slider housing a read-write transducer includes a plurality of electrical connection pads, where each electrical pad includes an interconnection portion configured for electrically connecting to an interconnected component, such as a lead suspension, a probe contact portion configured for electrical testing the head slider, and at least one slit positioned between the interconnection portion and the probe contact portion, thereby physically distinguishing and separating the two portions of a multiple-portion pad to inhibit undesirable solder flow to the wider probe contact portion on the slider side of each pad. A more controlled solder joint is provided, while the probe contact portion can remain relatively wide for probe contact and the interconnection portion can remain relatively narrow to reduce solder bridges among the pads.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2021Date of Patent: June 13, 2023Assignee: Western Digital Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kohichiroh Naka, Takeshi Hyugano, Kenichi Murata, Yuhsuke Matsumoto

Patent number: 11631426Abstract: A hard disk drive suspension assembly includes a pad base layer, a pad-end fixing layer, and a plurality of electrical pads each comprising a conductive layer on the pad base layer, where the base layer extends to the fixing layer, to which a distal end of the base layer is fixed. This configuration inhibits the delamination or deformation of the end edge of each pad. An additional cover layer may be implemented to cover the distal end of the conductive layer(s), further inhibiting deformation of the pads. These techniques are especially relevant with narrow, high-density, small pitch electrical pads.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2021Date of Patent: April 18, 2023Assignee: Western Digital Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kohichiroh Naka, Hiroyasu Tsuchida, Kenichi Murata, Yuhsuke Matsumoto

Patent number: 7550695Abstract: Embodiments of the invention correct the static attitude of a head gimbal assembly (HGA) with high accuracy. In one embodiment, a vector group that constitutes the shortest path from the initial attitude of the HGA to the final anticipatory attitude is formed. The vector group is formed of the plural displacement vectors that give a variety of variations in static attitude when unit shots of laser light are performed on the HGA. Displacement vectors are synthesized while the displacement vectors each giving the anticipatory attitude closest to a target attitude are being selected in order from the initial attitude, toward the target attitude. Unit shots equivalent to the number of displacement vectors are performed on irradiating positions related to the displacement vectors included in the vector group. The static attitude existing after the unit shots is measured, then the displacement vectors are corrected, and a vector group constituting the new shortest path is formed.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2005Date of Patent: June 23, 2009Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Yohtaroh Ichimura, Kohichiroh Naka, Yoshio Uematsu, Tatsushi Yoshida

Patent number: 6848167Abstract: A head gimbal assembly, which is a component of a hard disk drive, has a bending portion that has elasticity and is bent at a predetermined angle under an unloaded condition, and a slider is bonded to a holding portion thereof by mounting the head gimbal assembly on a bonding jig in a state in which the bending portion is stretched. When the head gimbal assembly is separated from the bonding jig after bonding, the bending portion is not restored freely, so that the head gimbal assembly is caught by the bonding jig during the separating process and a locked state is sometimes established.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2001Date of Patent: February 1, 2005Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Yasuhiro Mita, Kohichiroh Naka, Takuya Satoh, Tatsumi Tsuchiya, Tatsushi Yoshida
