  • Patent number: 6658058
Abstract: Any type of media data can be played back on a receiving side regardless of quality conditions of a data transmission line. Therefore, in a differential motion vector limiting unit 10, the number of cases of the inputting of “1” as quality conditions 9 of a data transmission line is counted and held for each unit time by using an internal timer. In simultaneous with the holding of the counted number, a differential motion vector limiting unit 10 refers to the counted number according to input position information 22 of a to-be-coded macro-block for each picture, and differential motion vector limiting information 11 is determined according to the referred counted number. In a motion compensation predicting unit 12, a differential motion vector is calculated, and the differential motion vector is compared with the differential motion vector limiting information 11.

  • Patent number: 6633611
Abstract: In partitioning and encoding an image into multiple regions, the degree of freedom of the region shape has generally been low and setting regions based on image features was difficult. A moving image encoding apparatus includes a region partitioning section, an encoder, and a memory for motion-compensated prediction. The region partitioning section includes a partitioning processing section and a integration processing section. The partitioning processing section partitions the input image based on a criterion relating to the state of partition. The integration processing section integrates mutually close regions based on a criterion relating to the state of integration. Thereafter, each region is encoded. A large variety of region shapes can be produced by the integration processing section.

  • Publication number: 20030133510
Abstract: An image coded data re-encoding apparatus (30) which generates in an image coded data analyzer (310) coded data after signal processing (221) by performing a first digital signal processing on first image coded data (220), supplies an image coded data synthesizer (320) with the coded data after signal processing (221) and multiple signals (222) associated with the first image coded data, and generates in the image coded data synthesizer (320) a second image coded data (240) by performing on the coded data after signal processing (221) a second digital signal processing based on multiple signals (222). The second image coded data is generated without once decoding the first image coded data. This makes it possible to prevent degradation in image quality, delay involved in the transform and an increase of the device size.

  • Publication number: 20030058486
Abstract: When an electric power is supplied to an image communication device of a user to perform telephone communication between the user and a person on the other end of the communication line, an on-off switch is automatically set to an off state on user's side under control of a video mute control unit so as to disconnect a video data coding/decoding unit from a video data receiving unit. Therefore, no video data received in the video data receiving unit is transmitted from the user to the other end of the communication line. Thereafter, when the user inputs a video mute-off instruction, an on-off switch is set to an on state under control of the video mute control unit so as to connect the video data coding/decoding unit and the video data receiving unit. Therefore, video data received in the video data receiving unit is transmitted from the user to the other end of the communication line.

  • Patent number: 6493035
Abstract: A marker inserting part 2 adds a sync signal is added to an input image signal 1 in its available area, then a signal processing part 4 performs signal processing on a yet-to-be processed image signal 3 added with the sync signal, and a marker detecting part 6 detects the sync signal from a processed image signal 5. Based on the sync signal added to the input image signal 1 and the sync signal detected from the processed signal 5, displacement detecting part 7 detects displacements of pixels or lines of the processed image signal 5 and generates displacement information 8 accordingly, and an image sync correcting part 9 corrects displacements of pixels or lines of the processed image signal 5, based on the displacement information 8.

  • Publication number: 20020150393
Abstract: When a request for storage is input, a storage and reconstruction control unit transmits an intra-frame request signal to an image signal transmitting apparatus and also transmits a storage start signal to a coded signal storage unit. When the intra-frame request signal is received, a coding control unit of the image signal transmitting apparatus controls an image coding unit to code the entirety of an image in the intra-frame coding mode and transmits the coded image signal in which the entirety of an image is intra-frame coded to the image signal storage and reconstruction apparatus. The image decoding unit of the image signal storage and reconstruction apparatus decodes the coded image signal and the storage and reconstruction control unit starts the storage with the coded image signal in which the entirety of an image is coded, responsive to the storage start signal.

  • Publication number: 20020118862
Abstract: A coded stream analyzer (102) variable-length decodes an incoming coded stream and extracts encoding parameters for each macroblock, such as an encoding mode, DCT coefficient values, the amount of codes of DCT coefficients, the amount of codes of each macroblock, and a motion vector, from the coded stream. An effective macroblock identification unit (103) then identifies macroblocks each of which can be contained in a moving object as an effective macroblock by using one or more encoding parameters extracted by the coded stream analyzer (102).

  • Patent number: RE37858
Abstract: A motion compensation predicting coding apparatus includes a motion detector for comparing pixel data in an image signal with pixel data of the previous image signal to generate a motion vector. The motion vector is indicative of the displacement differences between the image signal and the previous image signal. The image signal may be organized into blocks of pixel data for a single field or for multiple fields when notion detection is performed on the image signal by the motion detector. A subtracter generates a prediction compensation error signal by subtracting the pixel data in the previous image signal from the pixel data of the image signal. A coder receives the prediction compensation error signal and generates an appropriate coded output. The apparatus may also include an adaptive blocking mechanism for receiving the prediction compensation error signal and organizing the data in the signal into blocks into one of several fashions as dictated by the motion vector.
