  • Patent number: 8290314
Abstract: A chip is constituted from a transparent substrate, a reflector film formed on the transparent substrate and an optical waveguide layer formed on the reflector film, and a plurality of pores is formed in the optical waveguide layer. A light-introducing mechanism that introduces light from the transparent substrate of the chip onto the reflector film, and a light-detecting mechanism that detects the light reflected on the reflector film are provided. A specimen under investigation is detected by sensing a change in the incidence angle or in the intensity of reflected light that occurs when the specimen is adsorbed or deposits on the surface of the optical waveguide layer, by using a range of incidence angles of the light in which the intensity of reflected light changes when a part or all of the incident light couples with the optical waveguide mode that propagates in the optical waveguide layer.

  • Publication number: 20100137131
Abstract: The present invention provides a photocatalyst structure capable of improving catalyst efficiency dramatically and stably. In the present invention, the photocatalyst structure is comprised of a metal nanoparticle, a semiconductor photocatalyst, and a material intervening between the metal nanoparticle and the semiconductor photocatalyst. The material is transparent to a light of a wavelength which excites the semiconductor photocatalyst.

  • Publication number: 20080159708
Abstract: A video contents display apparatus include a display generation unit for: generating a predetermined number of static images by considering a time of lapse from information about recorded video contents; converting a static image other than at least one specified static image into an image reduced in a predetermined format from the predetermined number of generated static images; and displaying a sequence of images by arranging the at least one static image and the other static image along a predetermined path on a screen by considering the time of lapse.

  • Patent number: 6292443
Abstract: An optical disc drive control apparatus according to the present invention comprises a disc drive into or from which various optical discs are inserted or ejected. The system includes a first memory for storing various players that play back various optical discs, a second memory for storing a table in which combinations of various information recording mediums and various players corresponding to these mediums are written, and a disc manager, which comprises a unit for sensing the type of an optical disc inserted into the disc drive, a unit for referring to the table in the second memory and deriving the type of a player corresponding to the sensed type of optical disc, as well as the type of data stored on the disk, and a unit for driving one of the various players stored in the first memory which is of the type derived by the deriving means and causing the player to play back the optical disc.

  • Patent number: 5131977
Abstract: Herein disclosed is a method for manufacturing a base plate for a recording disc, which comprises steps of polishing the surface of the base plate of glass or aluminum, thereafter dispersing uniformly micro-crystals on the polished surface to form a portion where the micro-crystals are in contact with said polished surface, and subjecting the base plate to etching treatment with an etching agent in a gas phase or a liquid phase. Also disclosed is a base plate for a recording disc, which is obtained by uniformly dispersing micro-crystals on the surface of the base plate and subjecting the same to etching treatment, said base plate having very fine convexities and concavities on its surface.

  • Patent number: 4984149
Abstract: A memory access control apparatus according to the present invention which controls an IC memory of which is under the control of a BIOS in the same manner as in a normal disk unit. External file units including the IC memory, a floppy disk unit, a hard disk unit, and the like are assigned a series of drive numbers. Registers store parameters for using the IC memory as an external file, and an access address and a transfer length of the IC memory are expressed in a sector form. The BIOS receives the access address and the parameters, translates the address into a byte form address, and transfers data to a corresponding area.

  • Patent number: 4841454
Abstract: The data display-controlling device and method includes a control key used for reducing the speed at which data is displayed on a display unit. If the control key is depressed, this condition is detected by a central processing unit (CPU). Upon detection of the depression of the control key, the CPU reads current time from a timer, and determines whether a predetermined time has passed from the depression of the control key. If the predetermined time has not yet passed, the CPU executes the operating system program, and if the predetermined time has passed, data to be presented is supplied to the display unit.
