Patent number: 7538840Abstract: A liquid crystal display has spacers for maintaining a liquid crystal layer and a cell gap between a substrate and an opposite substrate and also has regions either within a single pixel or over two or more pixels. The spacers are of columnar shape elongated from the substrate to the opposite substrate or the other way round, and the columnar spacers are provided in regions in which the liquid crystal layer is thinnest among those regions in which the liquid crystal layer varies in thickness. The structure makes the liquid crystal display having two or more different cell gaps to stably maintain those cell gaps and produces good quality displays.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2007Date of Patent: May 26, 2009Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Koichi Fujimori, Yozo Narutaki, Tokihiko Shinomiya

Patent number: 6104457Abstract: A method of manufacturing a multi-panel liquid crystal display device prepared by connecting a liquid crystal multi-panel having a plurality of display surfaces to a reinforcing substrate includes the steps of: (a) forming a pattern of a seal material on at least one of a surface of the liquid crystal multi-panel and a surface of the reinforcing substrate; (b) connecting the liquid crystal multi-panel and the reinforcing substrate via the seal material; (c) injecting a bonding material into a spacing formed by the liquid crystal multi-panel, the reinforcing substrate and the seal material; and (d) hardening the bonding material. The described method permits the amount of use of the bonding material required for connecting the liquid crystal multi-panel and the reinforcing substrate to be minimized. As a result, the need of wasting or refining the excessive bonding material can be eliminated, thereby reducing a manufacturing cost.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1998Date of Patent: August 15, 2000Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yoshihiro Izumi, Koichi Fujimori

Patent number: 5839415Abstract: There is provided an air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine installed on an automotive vehicle. The control system controls the air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the engine to a value leaner than a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio immediately after the start of the engine. Operating conditions of the engine and/or operating conditions of the automotive vehicle is detected. Starting of the vehicle is predicted based on the detected operating conditions of the engine and/or the detected operating conditions of the automotive vehicle. The air-fuel ratio of the mixture supplied to the engine is changed to a richer value than the leaner value when the starting of the vehicle is predicted.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1997Date of Patent: November 24, 1998Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Norio Suzuki, Koichi Fujimori, Yusuke Hasegawa, Hiroki Munakata, Shusuke Akazaki, Masuhiro Yoshizaki
