  • Patent number: 4823446
Abstract: A fluid-tight slide fastener stringer has a fluid-tight tape including a longitudinally non-stretchable and transversely stretchable woven or knit fabric wholly covered with a layer of elastic rubber or synthetic resin. The tape has non-stretchable warp inlaid threads and stretchable weft inlaid threads. The laterally stretchable tape serves as a shock absorber for reducing the intensity of external lateral pulling forces exerted on the tape.

  • Patent number: 4744133
Abstract: A fluid-tight slide fastener stringer has a fluid-tight tape chiefly made of rubber or synthetic resin on which tape a series of discrete coupling elements are supported along an inner longitudinal margin of the tape. The tape margin is folded so as to provide therealong a pair of spaced contact portions and a folded edge portion disposed between the contact portions. The tape has a foamed layer extending in and through at least the contact portions and the folded edge portion. At least the margin of the resultant tape is excellent in ability of restitution, causing an improved fluid-tightness between the opposed stringers.

  • Patent number: 4724586
Abstract: A water-resistant slide fastener has a pair of water-resistant transversely stretchable stringer tapes having reinforced marginal edge portions, respectively, each including an elastically deformable core tape, and a pair of rows of coupling elements mounted on the reinforced marginal edge portions, respectively, and engageable with each other across a central axis. The reinforced marginal edge portions have a pair of confronting edges projecting toward each other beyond the central axis when the rows of coupling elements are out of mutual engagement. Each of the stringer tapes has a woven or knitted foundation tape and a soft sealing layer on the foundation tape. Each of the reinforced marginal edge portions includes a folded marginal tape edge portion with the soft sealing layer disposed outside. The core tape is sandwiched between the folded marginal tape edge portion and a major portion of one of the stringer tapes.

  • Patent number: 4607416
Abstract: A fluid-tight slide fastener comprises a pair of stringer tapes each having an inner edge region, an outer edge region and a stretchable region intermediate between the two edge regions which are non-stretchable. The intermediate stretchable region yieldingly takes up any transverse stresses which would otherwise act upon the inner edge region to split apart the fastener halves and produce leakage therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4596065
Abstract: A method of producing a slide fastener wherein a series of fastener elements are secured to each of a pair of fastener tapes along one edge each thereof, each said fastener tape is formed thereon with a waterproof sealing layer, and when said series of fastener elements on each said pair of fastener tapes are engaged with each other, the edges of said waterproof sealing layers on each said pair of fastener tapes are press-contacted with each other so as to provide airtightness and waterproofness.

  • Patent number: 4580321
Abstract: A fluid-tight slide fastener comprises a pair of slide fastener halves each including a support tape, a row of continuous coupling elements extending longitudinally along the inner edge of the tape on one side thereof, and an elastomeric sealing member overlying the other side of the tape. The tape has a longitudinal ridge substantially defining the inner edge and supporting the row of coupling elements laterally longitudinally by means of stitching threads. A portion of the threads is disposed adjacent to the ridge to prevent the latter from moving remotely from the coupling elements row for thereby supporting the ridge intimately enough to ensure the abuttment of opposed sealing edges of the tapes when the fastener halves are coupled together.

  • Patent number: 4427458
Abstract: The invention provides a novel method for non-electrolytically forming a protective film on the surface of a shaped article made of aluminum or an aluminum-based alloy having high durability in respect of corrosion resistance and light resistance. The method is particularly suitable for the surface treatment of aluminum-made fastener elements of a slide fastener chain fastened to the fastener tape along the periphery thereof. The inventive method comprises the steps of cleaning the surface of the aluminum article, e.g. by degreasing and rinsing with water, chemical conversion treatment of the article in a treatment solution to form a conversion film on the surface, removal of the treatment solution from the surface of the article as completely as possible and heating the article at a temperature in the range from 90.degree. to 150.degree. C., preferably, for 3 to 9 minutes to increase the stability and to strengthen the adhesion of the conversion coating film on the surface of the article.
