    Abstract: There is provided a secondary battery where the occurrence of adverse effects due to folds of a continuously folded separator is reduced. A secondary battery includes a plurality of sheet-like positive electrodes, a plurality of sheet-like negative electrodes, and a belt-like separator placed between the positive electrodes and the negative electrodes. The positive electrodes and the negative electrodes are alternately stacked with the separator interposed therebetween. The separator is continuously folded to be interposed between the positive electrodes and the negative electrodes. Folds of the continuously folded separator are at least a specified distance away from ends of the negative electrodes.

    Abstract: A stacked battery module or a battery pack is formed by laying a plurality of unit batteries of non-aqueous electrolyte batteries in layers with the surfaces thereof having a large area disposed vis-à-vis and electrically connecting them in series and a temperature fuse is arranged in the central part of the stacked battery module with one of its terminals connected to either the positive electrode terminal or the negative electrode terminal of the stacked battery module while the other terminal connected to a charging terminal for supplying a charging current in a charging operation. One of the terminals of the stacked battery module is connected to a discharging terminal for taking out a discharging current in a discharging operation and the other terminal of the stacked battery module is a common terminal for charging and discharging operations.

In the stacked secondary battery, either of a planar positive electrode or a planar negative electrode is contained in a pouch-shaped separator oriented such that the direction in which a positive lead terminal or a negative lead terminal is drawn out is aligned with a machine direction of the separator; a synthetic resin film is applied to the pouch-shaped separator across an edge of a joint area on both sides of the separator, the synthetic resin film having an adhesion strength higher than the stress caused by thermal contraction of the separator and having a softening point higher than that of the separator; and the positive electrode or the negative electrode that is contained in the pouch-shaped separator is stacked with a counter electrode that is not contained in the separator in an opposed manner to form a stacked battery element, which in turn is sealed in a film-like casing.
