  • Publication number: 20040254311
Abstract: A flow reactor for liquid-phase polymerization reaction, which enables controlling the degree of polymerization for, for example, amino acid polymerization, wherein the liquid reaction mixture containing the organic reactive molecules to be polymerized is emitted from a high-temperature high-pressure part (A) to a low-temperature high-pressure part (B) via a circulation line (C), whereby inhibiting the decomposition of the polymer product in the low-temperature high-pressure part (B), after which the polymer product is once again sent to the high-temperature high-pressure part (A) through the circulation line for further polymerization, and the same cycle is repeated.

  • Patent number: 4722584
Abstract: An optical connector ferrule and a method for producing such an optical connector ferrule wherein the bonding between a metal sleeve and the main body of the ferrule, which is made of a synthetic resin material, is markedly improved. A rearward end of the metal sleeve is embedded in the synthetic resin material, preferably, around a flange of the main body. The metal sleeve may be provided with irregularities on one or both of the inner and outer surfaces thereof to further improve the adhesion between the resin of the main body and the metal sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4708433
Abstract: An optical connector for joining exposed fiber ends of coated fibers and a method of manufacturing a pair of ferrules for the optical connector. The optical connector includes a pair of the ferrules each having a flange, the coated fiber and a metal pipe molded integrally with one another by using molding resin, a coupling pin fitted through holes of the ferrules, a sleeve for receiving the metal pipes of the ferrules, and a housing member for axially clamping the ferrules to each other.

  • Patent number: 4682864
Abstract: In order to simultaneously observe a transparent object from two directions, first and second beam paths containing first and second images from two directions are separated using a prism to reflect the second beam path yet pass the first beam path. The length of the second beam path is caused to be different from that of the first beam path. Then the first and second beam paths are combined so that the first and second images may be viewed simultaneously. The different beam path lengths result in the first and second images being formed at the same position. As a result, the images carried by the first and second beam paths, both passing through a single objective lens, may be viewed simultaneously at a single location.

  • Patent number: 4526732
Abstract: A heating apparatus for thermally shrinkable tubes and the like has a heating density gradient such that a higher temperature is imparted initially to a central portion of the heated tube, spreading gradually to the ends of the tube, to purge air bubbles to the outside of the tube while employing only one heating element.

  • Patent number: 4202475
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting simultaneously a plurality of glass fibers at an uncoated end portion so as to provide smooth mirror planar cut surfaces. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of removably securing each of the fibers on either side of a cutting point, placing each of the secured fibers on a resilient material provided in the region of the cutting point, scoring the outer surface of each of the fibers at the cutting point, and arcuately bending each of the fibers between the secured portions so as to impart a tension along the axial direction of each of the fibers, whereby the cutting occurs at the cutting point. Two embodiments of the apparatus of the present invention which perform the cutting operation in accordance with the method of the present invention are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4196965
Abstract: A pair of optical fibers each having a core and a plastic clad is connected end to end by removing end portions of the plastic clads to expose end portions of the cores of the fibers, and contacting the end portions of the cores so that the optical axis of one fibers. The contacting portion of the fibers are connected by heat melting. The connecting portion of the fibers are covered with a melting, and covering the connecting portion of the fibers with a protection sleeve composed of an inner plastic layer having a refractive index smaller than that of the core and an outer metal layer and having an inner diameter substantially equal to an outer diameter of the optical fiber. The ends of the sleeve are sealingly connected onto the outer surfaces of the optical fibers, respectively.

  • Patent number: RE28961
Abstract: Manufacturing of a soft metal sheath formed of aluminum or copper, for example, is improved by suitably selecting the apparatus composing the shaping means employed therein and arranging the capstan and the sinking die in a novel manner. The apparatus selected is made from a wear-resistant synthetic resin such as a molybdenum bisulfide-included nylon. The sheath is manufactured from a metal tape of aluminum or copper through the working stages of applying a cylindrical tube shaped from the tape onto a cable core, butt welding the seam, and then reducing the diameter of the metal tube to connect it to the core.
