  • Patent number: 7957884
Abstract: A running control apparatus for a vehicle controls a state of running using a driving source for generating a driving force of the vehicle. The apparatus includes an accelerator pedal measuring device for measuring a degree of depression of an accelerator pedal of the vehicle; and a vehicle speed measuring device for measuring a vehicle speed of the vehicle. A driving-force maintenance mode for maintaining the driving force or a vehicle-speed maintenance mode for maintaining the vehicle speed is executed based on the measured degree of depression of the accelerator pedal and the measured vehicle speed. The apparatus may include an inter-vehicle distance measuring device for measuring an inter-vehicle distance between the present vehicle and a vehicle ahead thereof. An inter-vehicle-distance maintenance mode is also provided so as to maintain the inter-vehicle distance based on the measured degree of depression of the accelerator pedal and the measured inter-vehicle distance.

  • Patent number: 6323608
Abstract: A single dual-voltage battery capable of powering an automobile system having electrical equipment that requires different supply voltage. The battery allows idle stop, assisted drive and regeneration to be performed more efficiently by cooperative control of a controller and a DC/DC converter. Commonly performed external powering and starting can also be carried out if the battery has expired. The single dual-voltage battery is obtained by equipping a 12-V battery with a 24-V battery of a different type and adapted to supply power to respective electrical components. The 12-V battery unit is provided with a charging controllable DC/DC converter or downverter. The ancillary battery condition is monitored and controlled. External powering and starting is facilitated by using an ultracapacitor as the ancillary battery. The battery can be used with a single relay.

  • Patent number: 5834132
Abstract: A battery temperature regulating apparatus efficiently controls the charging temperature of a battery assembly which serves as a power source to energize a propulsive motor on an electric vehicle to run on a road. A fluid jacket is disposed in heat exchange relationship with the battery assembly and supplied with a coolant to regulate the temperature of the battery assembly with a radiator or an electric heater for allowing the battery assembly to be charged in a temperature range from 20.degree. C. to 35.degree. C., for example, which is optimum for the charging of the battery assembly. The battery temperature regulating apparatus can maintain the optimum temperature range more reliably than a conventional apparatus which regulates the temperature of the battery assembly as it is charged with a forced flow of hot air or cool air, and can reduce the electric energy consumption to 1/3 of that of the conventional apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5756227
Abstract: A battery assembly has a temperature control mechanism for effecting cooling or heating unit batteries for operation in a desired temperature range. First heat-exchange planar members of respective heat-transfer plates are sandwiched between the unit batteries that are arranged in an array, and second heat-exchange planar members thereof are held against transverse narrow side walls of the unit batteries. The unit batteries and the heat-transfer plates are securely fastened together by holder plates. Heat produced when the unit batteries are in operation is transferred through the first and second heat-exchange planar members of the heat-transfer plates and dissipated into an appropriate cooling medium, such as atmospheric air or another cooling fluid, through a heat-exchange.
