  • Publication number: 20050117464
Abstract: A disk playback apparatus and method capable of improving the ease of operation when a plurality of pieces of content, which are recorded on one disk and for which the playback method is different, are provided. A system controller analyzes the type of content recorded on a disk to be played back and creates management information such that a different pseudo-slot number corresponds to each of the pieces of the recorded content on the basis of the analysis result when a plurality of different types of the recording information are recorded on the disk. This management information contains the pseudo-slot number and the details of the recorded content corresponding to each pseudo-slot number, for example, information for CD-DA, and MP3. When an operation section is operated by the user to specify the pseudo-slot number, a digital signal processing section plays back the recorded content corresponding to the pseudo-slot number.

  • Patent number: 6889001
Abstract: A disk player includes a system controller. The system controller creates marked-playback-start-position specifying data every time a user presses a playback position marking key of an operation unit to mark a playback start position. If the user presses a menu screen display key of the operation unit to instruct the display of a marked-playback-start-position selection-menu screen, the system controller displays an image corresponding to each playback start position on the marked start position menu screen. If title playback is stopped or paused, the system controller creates stop position specifying data for specifying a stop position and stores the data in a RAM. The system controller displays a stop position menu screen including stop-position-related information based on the stop position specifying data.

  • Publication number: 20040234242
Abstract: An apparatus is capable of playing back video content recorded on a DVD-Video disk without requiring the playing of a menu. A presentation sequence control unit of a non-video navigation manager extracts button commands for playing titles from a VMGM-PG for displaying a title menu defined for a DVD-Video disk. The presentation sequence control unit selects the extracted button commands in a predetermined order and requests a navigation control unit to play titles indicated by the button commands. The navigation control unit controls a presentation engine to reproduce audio data of the titles in accordance with VTS-PGCs for playing back titles and to provide the reproduced audio data through an audio output device.

  • Patent number: 6745164
Abstract: A DVD-Audio player includes an automatic data selection setting unit. The automatic data selection setting unit specifies the type of data to be output by an output data selection unit. The specified type of data is fed to a signal separation unit to be separated into audio data and video data. The separated audio data is output via an audio output unit to a speaker, and the separated video data is output via a video output unit to a monitor. Independent audio data is selected for output when the monitor is not connected, when the monitor is powered off, and when the monitor is being used for navigation or for receiving TV broadcasts. Otherwise, audio data with video data is selected for output. The DVD-Audio player also includes a manual data selection setting unit that allows the user to alter the setting as desired.

  • Publication number: 20040018007
Abstract: A DVD-video playback apparatus including a navigation manager that estimates the size of each title included in a DVD disc when the navigation manager receives a playback start command for the DVD disc from a main controller. The navigation manager sets titles whose sizes are larger than half of the size of the largest title as monitored titles, and starts playing back the DVD discs 1 by controlling a presentation engine. When the playback of all of the monitored titles is completed, the playback is stopped and a disc-change request is issued to the main controller. The main controller changes the DVD disc to another DVD disc by controlling a DVD changer, and issues a playback start command for the new DVD disc to the navigation manager.

  • Publication number: 20030194212
Abstract: A DVD player performs processing which, when subpicture settings, audio settings, or angle settings cannot be changed, determines whether the switching operation is impossible due to a lack of data recorded on a DVD, or is prohibited by a title producer or due to player specifications. When a user-designated operation cannot be executed, the DVD player displays a message indicating that the operation is prohibited by the title producer or due to the player specifications. When the operation is impossible due to a lack of data corresponding to the operation, the DVD player displays a message indicating that the operation is impossible due to the lack of the corresponding data.
