  • Publication number: 20050086665
Abstract: In an information processing apparatus using an operating system, an autonomous device driver that is independent from a kernel is provided. An information processor 110 using a middleware support library 204 that operates independently from the operating system and has an application program interface 201 independent from specifications of hardware is provided. The middleware support library 204 compensates for a function not implemented in the hardware by software.

  • Publication number: 20050050424
Abstract: In a server unit (300), a clock-time comparator (313) acquires the scheduled decoding clock-time information for decoding a video packet and RTT for transferring the video packet to a client unit (400) via a network and computes the time necessary for retransmitting the video packet on the basis of RTT. If the clock-time comparator (313) determines that it cannot meet the scheduled decoding clock-time information when the video packet is retransmitted, a processing unit (314) adds an error correction code to the video packet and transmits it. If, on the other hand, the clock-time comparator (313) determines that it can meet the scheduled decoding clock-time information, the processing unit (314) adds an error detection code to the video packet and transmits it. Thus, either way can be selected depending on the status of transmission and hence it is possible to reduce the load of transmitting video data in order to output video data on a stable basis and improve the processing efficiency.

  • Publication number: 20050021827
Abstract: A server unit (300) transmits dummy packets to be used for computing an effective transmission speed of a network (200) to a client unit (400) by way of the network (200) at timing prior to the transmission of data packets containing data at a speed higher than a transmission speed of the data packets. The transmission speed detector (422) of the client unit (400) computes the effective transmission speed of the network (200) on the basis of the detected amount of the lost dummy packets on the network (200). The server unit (300) specifies a transmission speed for the data packets on the basis of the effective transmission speed and transmits the data packets to the client unit (400) by way of the network (200) at the specified transmission speed.

  • Patent number: 6763177
Abstract: When a played scene of a VCR (sequential access recorder) (90) is overwritten or added to the play list derived from the cut edit of the video scenes already stored in a disk (random access recorder) (140) according to the first instruction of a user, a selector (96) switches the play output of the disk following the play list and said played scene of the VCR to provide it to a monitor (6A) so that the user can confirm the edit result during the recording in real time. If there is the second instruction (VIEW instruction) during the recording, it plays the same edit result of the disk (140) again based on the renewed temporary play list to provide it to the monitor (6A) without interrupting the recording. On this occasion, it approves the user to change the play speed and stops advancing the play if the user try to play beyond the recorded point.

  • Publication number: 20020176497
Abstract: Provided are a quantizing unit setting apparatus that enable suppressing the deterioration in the quality of image after coding in a distribution origin to thereby suppress the deterioration in the quality of image after decoding in a distribution destination. In the quantizing unit setting apparatus, there is equipped a quantizing step setting part in which there is predicted an empty memory space in memory device for temporarily storing the produced coded moving picture, and the empty memory space, if there are coded the original static picture images, there is set the quantizing unit according to the predicted empty memory space so as to prevent the memory device from overflowing.
