Abstract: The present invention relates to a playing apparatus and method that can easily edit or add meta-information, a program storage medium, and a program. A stream playing unit 16 plays a stream on the basis of a stream file, and additionally outputs playback information of the stream being played. A meta-information-file reading unit 14 reads in a meta-information file of the stream being played. A stream-synchronized reading unit 15 causes the meta-information file to be read in synchronization with the video stream played on the basis of playback information of the video stream being played. An additional-image-information providing unit 12 provides additional image information to the video stream on the basis of the read meta-information file. A combining unit 13 combines the provided additional image information with the video stream played by the playing means. The present invention can be applied to a playing apparatus.
