    Abstract: The invention is a copy processing technique in a data processing system, which can simultaneously achieve long-distance communication and no data loss when disaster occurs. Among a production site, a local site, and a remote site, long-distance remote copying from a disk array device at the production site to a disk array device at the remote site without data loss is achieved via a disk array device at the local site in combination with synchronous remote copying and asynchronous remote copying. Also, in the disk array devices at the local site and the remote site, copying is performed through a replica function. Even if the production site is affected by disaster, tasks can be continued at the local site having the same data as that of the production site and at the remote site a long distance away from the production site.

    Abstract: The present invention is provided for fusion splicing optical fibers with low splice loss even when a shape of a discharge beam for the splicing is distorted. In the present invention, a preliminary discharge is performed with the optical fibers outside a discharge area and an image of the discharge beam thereof is picked up. Based on this image, brightness distributions of the discharge beam are estimated on a plurality of lines in a Z direction that are set in different positions in an X direction, and a discharge center of the beam is found from the plurality of brightness distributions. Then, the abutment portion of the optical fibers is positioned at the discharge center, and a main discharge is performed so as to fusion splice the distal ends of the optical fibers.

    Abstract: In allocating an area of a cache memory to each storage unit, proper allocation of the cache memory is made to each storage unit. If the amount of write-after data becomes equal to or more than a threshold value, an allocation limit is set to each disk unit. If CPU issues a data write request requiring the amount of data equal to or more than the allocation limit, the data write request is held in a wait state until the amount of write-after data becomes less than the allocation limit. Therefore, the allocation amount to the disk unit becomes neither too large nor too small. In this manner, proper allocation of the cache memory to each disk unit can be realized.

The graphics display system also includes a first register group which stores the graphics data, a second register group which converts and/or stores the data in the first register group, a pixel generator which generates pixels according to the graphic data in the second register group, and a plotter which writes the pixel data generated in the pixel generator in the frame memories. The second register group fetches the data from the first register group when the host processor issues a command for plotting, holds the data previously written by the host processor. At the same time, when the host processor issues a command for plotting, the specified graphic type is written in the graphic processor as well as data calculated based on the first and second register groups.

    Abstract: A parallel processing method for use with a graphics processor wherein graphics processing is performed by each of configured command processors efficiently in a distributed manner, with a host CPU remaining unaware of the number of command processors. Each command group of a variable length from a host CPU is distributed from an FIFO queue to a plurality of parallelly arranged command processors for parallel processing through any free one of input FIFO queues corresponding to the command processors. Upon command group distribution, an identical serial number is added as a command group serial number to the commands constituting the same command group. The results of processing of individual graphics commands by the command processors are collected via output FIFO queues, which also correspond to the processors, in the order of the command group serial numbers added to the commands before the processed results are graphically drawn.
