    Abstract: In accordance with an embodiment, an information processing apparatus includes a housing having an insertion slot for a detachable battery, a monitoring device configured to monitor power supplied from an external power source, a charger configured to charge the battery with the supplied from the external power source, and a controller. When the power from the external power source stops, the controller stores data in a volatile memory in a non-volatile memory using power supplied from the battery. The controller also checks a status of the battery, and issues a notification depending on the status of the battery.
