  • Patent number: 7019939
Abstract: On the basis of the position of a first target track specified by a command from a host, a CPU calculates a first offset value reflecting a track pitch that enables the adverse effects of crosstalk to be suppressed. The first offset value indicates an offset of a target position at which a head is to be actually positioned from a predetermined position on the first target track. The CPU determines a second target track, to which the target position belongs, and a second offset value on the basis of the position of the first target track and the calculated first offset value. The second offset value indicates an offset of the target position from the predetermined position on the second target track. The CPU positions the head at the target position on the determined second target track on the basis of the determined second target track position and second offset value.

  • Publication number: 20010024339
Abstract: This invention discloses a disk drive having a loading/unloading mechanism. In the loading/unloading mechanism, an actuator is latched by a latch mechanism while a head is retracted to a ramp member. At the start of loading operation, the CPU of the drive supplies a driving current at a boosted voltage higher in level than a main power supply voltage, and drives a VCM to release latch of the actuator. Power by the boosted voltage is supplied to the VCM using an auxiliary power supply used in retract operation.

  • Patent number: 5684651
Abstract: Servo data respectively recorded in the peripheral and innermost tracks of a magnetic disk at low and high densities in synchronism with a predetermined write period are read back and binarized by the magnetic head as flux reversal patterns. In this case, on the basis of a table stored in the EEPROM in advance, the filter characteristic of a characteristic variable type low-pass filter is variably set to be a characteristic defined by a low cutoff frequency fc and a small boost amount in the peripheral zone and to be a characteristic defined by a high cutoff frequency and a boost amount, which is large on a high-frequency side, on the central zone. The peak waveforms of a servo signal in the central side are raised to be sharpened, and a qualification level in a pulse decoder is variably set to be high in the outermost tracks and to be low in the innermost tracks.
