  • Patent number: 5636323
Abstract: The invention is directed to an apparatus for speech communication that includes an echo canceler (3) for canceling an acoustic echo component input from a hands-free speech loudspeaker (13) to a microphone (14). The echo canceler (30) is provided with a volume control (36) for variably controlling the volume of a received speech signal, an amplitude limiter (35) for limiting the amplitude of an output signal from the volume control (36), an echo canceler (32, 32) for estimating a pseudo echo signal from an output from the amplitude limiter and subtracting the estimated pseudo echo signal from the transmitted speech signal input from the microphone (14), and a nonlinear filter (34) for processing an output from the echo canceler, thereby limiting the amplitude level of the received speech signal to a predetermined level or less.

  • Patent number: 5400399
Abstract: A speech communication apparatus of the present invention includes, in addition to an echo canceller for canceling an acoustic echo generated in a hands-free speech space, a chirp signal generating unit and a training unit. The chirp signal generating unit generates a chirp signal adequate for initial training of the echo canceller. The training control unit enables the chirp signal generating unit to generate a chirp signal, when a predetermined condition for starting hands-free speaking is satisfied, and a chirp tone corresponding to the chirp signal to be output as a volume-amplified tone from the hands-free speaker. The echo canceller performs initial training of the echo canceller based on the chirp tone.

  • Patent number: 5379338
Abstract: A radiotelephone of this invention comprises a sending-speech level varying circuit for varying the level of the sending-speech signal from the microphone and supplying the resulting signal and receiving-speech level varying means for varying the level of the receiving-speech signal demodulated by receiving means and supplying the resulting signal to the speaker, as well as a talking-mode setting section and a gain control circuit. At the talking-mode setting section, either the handset talking mode or the hand-free talking mode is set. At the gain control circuit, the gains of the sending-speech level varying circuit and receiving-speech level varying circuit undergo variable control according to the talking mode set by the talking-mode setting section. The gain control is carried out in such a manner that the gain becomes a first specific value when the handset talking mode has been set, and a second specific value larger than the first value when the hand-free talking mode has been set.
