  • Patent number: 10804002
Abstract: A cable intended for use in a nuclear environment includes one or more conductors, a longitudinally applied corrugated shield surrounding the one or more conductors, and a cross-linked polyolefin jacket layer surrounding the longitudinally applied corrugated shield. The cable conducts about 5,000 volts to about 68,000 volts in use and is radiation resistant and heat resistant. The cable comprises a life span of about 40 years or more when measured in accordance with IEEE 323. Methods for making a cable and a nuclear reactor utilizing such a cable are also provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 13, 2015
Date of Patent: October 13, 2020
    Assignee: GENERAL CABLE TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION
Inventors: Elliot Byunghwa Lee, Srinivas Siripurapu, Koksal Tonyali

  • Patent number: 6197864
Abstract: Improved flame retardant compositions suitable for insulating wire and cable products comprised of ethylene-alkoxy silane copolymer, halogenated organic compound, antimony trioxide, silane condensation catalyst and magnesium hydroxide are provided. Additionally, antioxidant(s), other mineral fillers and other conventional compounding ingredients may be included in the formulations. The compositions have good processability and are capable of being cured under ambient conditions to provide products which meet all of the specifications of SAE J-1128 for thin wall crosslinked polyolefin low tension primary cable insulation. Wire and cable products comprising a metal conductor coated with from 2 to 100 mils of the flame retardant insulation are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6066377
Abstract: A laminated air brake tubing includes inner and outer nylon layers with an intermediate fiber reinforcing layer. The tubing further includes one and preferably two layers of high density polyethylene positioned adjacent either of said nylon layers. The polyethylene layers are cross-linked preferably by irradiation. Further, the high density polyethylene layer may include compatibilizing agents preventing delaminating. The air brake tubing of the present invention meets the current requirements for air brake tubing, however it is less expensive than currently available air brake tubing.

  • Patent number: 5401787
Abstract: Improved flame retardant moisture curable insulation compositions are comprised of an ethylene-alkoxysilane copolymer, a halogenated anhydride and antimony trioxide provided. The compositions have good processability and can be moisture cured to provide products which meet all of the requirements for SAE J-1128 low tension primary cable. The halogenated anhydride imparts flame retardancy to the compositions and also promotes cure by catalyzing the hydrolysis/condensation reaction of the silane copolymer. Optionally there may be included in the composition antioxidants, silanol condensation catalysts, organic halogen containing flame retardant compounds and other conventional compounding ingredients.
