  • Patent number: 5935695
Abstract: A joint filler for use in joints between structural elements comprising: at least one layer of a substantially non-compressible, moisture blocking material; at least two layers of a compressible and resilient, moisture blocking material, each layer being in surface to surface contact with a layer of non-compressible material; the layers of material are combined to form a strip of interleaved compressible and non-compressible layers, and in an uncompressed state thicker than a joint.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 24, 1997
Date of Patent: August 10, 1999
    Assignee: Emseal Corporation
    Inventor: Konrad Baerveldt
  • Patent number: 5628857
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a retaining element for an expansion joint seal comprises co-extruding, in a desired profile, a thermoplastic rubber body with high density thermoplastic elastomer reinforcing plate on the lower surface thereof. The reinforcing plate includes at least one rib extending into the thermoplastic rubber body. After the co-extruded body and reinforcing plate are permitted to cool and harden the lower surface of said co-extruded body and reinforcing plate is mechanically planed to obtain a retaining element of said desired profile with a flat lower surface.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5338130
Abstract: An expansion joint retainer is used in fastening a flexible elastomeric seal or strip seal to a structural slab. The retainer has a main body made from a first material. The main body has a thickness selected to permit emplacement of the retainer on the edge of a slab whereby the upper surface of the main body is substantially coplanar with or beneath the upper traffic bearing surface of the slab. The retainer includes a retaining element adjacent the lower surface of the main body. The retaining element is made of a second material serving to provide the retainer with sufficient rigidity to be bolted to a slab. The invention is characterized in that the second material is a thermoplastic elastomer.

  • Patent number: 5130176
Abstract: A sealant strip includes at least three layers of foam coated on one side edge with a waterproof elastomer. The strip is arranged as two outer layers sandwiching an inner layer. The outer layers are substantially equally compressible, and the inner layer is compressible to a different degree than the outer layers. When the outer edge of said strip is coated with said elastomer and then said strip compressed, said coating will tend to fold along the interfaces between the layers of foam.
