  • Patent number: 4949059
Abstract: An electromagnetic circuit breaker in which the mechanism for the circuit breaker is supported on the frame, in turn, supported on a base. Cooperative with the base is an insulating housing enclosure which is moved over the mechanism and into a fixed latching engagement with the base using detents or other indexing devices. The electromagnetic coil for the breaker is supported on a bobbin, in turn, supported on a platform on the frame. A non-magnetic tube contains the magnetic core which is biased away from the pole piece closing the end of the tube. At the pole piece end of the tube a radially extending flange of the tube engages the other flange of the bobbin and supports the tube to extend through the hollow core of the bobbin and the coil wrapped thereon.

  • Patent number: 4940957
Abstract: An electromagnetic circuit breaker uses opposed half shell cases which cooperate to enclose the breaker structure. The structure of the breaker is supported on a frame member which, in turn, is fixed to the housing. The electromagnetic coil for the breaker is supported on a platform extension of the frame wound on a bobbin spool, one flange of which rests against the platform. Passing through the core of the spool and the coil is a non-magnetic tubular core holder containing a magnetic core which is at least spring, and usually gravity, biased toward one end of the tube away from the pole piece closing the other end of the tube. The end of the tube closed by the pole piece is terminated in a radial flange which rests atop the other flange of the coil bobbin. Some part of the flange is, in turn, engaged in the assembly of the housing by shoulders which press the flange toward the bobbin and, in turn, against the supporting platform of the frame, thereby holding the whole structure in place.

  • Patent number: 4918413
Abstract: An electromagnetic circuit breaker having a frame is supported in fixed position relative to the housing and provides a platform for a bobbin on which is wrapped the electromagnetic coil of the breaker. One flange of the bobbin rests on the frame platform. The other flange supports a flange at the end of a non-magnetic tube containing the movable magnetic core to support the tube and the core in position extending through the center of the coil. The tube is closed by the pole piece which on overload attracts the armature of the breaker. A clamping member is supplied to hold the flange of the tube against the flange of the bobbin and to clamp the entire structure against the frame securely so that it will not move. The clamping means is arranged to contact a wall of the housing having a component generally parallel to the flange. The clamping means is preferably composed of a sheet metal member bent away from the plane of the flange to a point of contact with the housing then bent to conform to the housing.

  • Patent number: 4609119
Abstract: A retaining device releasably mounts and retains an electrical unit, such as a circuit breaker, within a panel opening. A face plate on the unit overlaps the panel to stop the unit at the panel opening. The retaining device has at least one resilient retaining arm projecting from the unit having a cam surface for engaging an edge of the opening to depress the retaining arm from an original position as the unit is inserted until a retaining surface of the arm passes the edge of the opening and allows the retaining arm to move back toward its original position to hold the panel against the face plate. The retaining device includes a separate lock arm projecting from the unit having a latch element and a latch release. Depression of the lock arm from an original position during insertion of the unit into the opening permits the latch element to clear the edge and pass through the opening.

  • Patent number: 4270035
Abstract: A circuit breaker comprising a molded case formed by two half-cases abutting each other. A snap on mounting clip embraces the half-cases. The clip comprises a central portion and arms on either side thereof embracing the half-cases. The arms include locking protrusions which are received in holes formed in the half-cases. The protrusions are deformed toward the embraced half-case. The arms include end portions flared outwardly of the case. The arms are angled to permit the arms to spring freely as they are pushed over the half-cases. The case includes an upper wall, and the central portion is bowed downwardly so as to be concave relative to said upper wall of said case. The upper wall includes an opening and the central portion of the clip includes a thread receiving opening. The openings in the wall and in the clip are aligned to receive the shank of a threaded fastener for mounting the circuit breaker to a panel.
