  • Patent number: 7790190
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an aqueous emulsion. The lipid phase of the emulsion includes a blend of a therapeutically effective concentration of a lipophile, a concentration of Vitamin E TPGS, and a concentration of linoleic acid. The presence of linoleic acid increases the solubilizing affect of Vitamin E TPGS on the lipophile and thus reduces the amount of Vitamin E TPGS that would otherwise be required in the aqueous emulsion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 20, 2004
Date of Patent: September 7, 2010
    Assignee: Yasoo Health, Inc.
Inventors: Andreas M. Papas, Konstantinos A. Papas, Howard K. Hobbs, Warren Hopkins, William A. Clark
  • Publication number: 20060088558
Abstract: A liquid Vitamin E TPGS concentrate composition is provided, the concentrate having a significantly higher percentage of TPGS per unit volume than traditional liquid TPGS formulations while providing the TPGS in a liquid form that can be used in softgels or mixed with water to produce desired concentrations for commercial use in supplements, beverages, pharmaceutical preparations, etc.

  • Publication number: 20050276794
Abstract: The invention provides a composition for protecting islet cells during isolation and transplantation, as well as a method for increasing survival of islets and islet cells during harvest from the donor pancreas, isolation and culture, transportation, and transplantation into the recipient. The composition provides at least one Vitamin E homolog that, when combined with cell culture media, increases islet cell survival.

  • Publication number: 20050209315
Abstract: The invention relates to novel vitamin compositions having increased absorption and bioavailability. Vitamin E compositions are provided, for example, having biologically significant amounts of one or more vitamin E homologues in an aqueous formulation. Also provided is a method for preparing aqueous formulations of lipophilic nutrients.

  • Publication number: 20050107465
Abstract: A method for reducing inflammation in inflammatory bowel disease is disclosed. The method comprises reducing the expression of endothelial cell adhesion molecules in the vasculature of the bowel wall by administering a therapeutic dosage of an effective amount of a blend of vitamin E TPGS and gamma-tocopherol. Gamma-tocopherol is also useful when used alone in the invention. The reduction in endothelial cell adhesion molecules is due to the deactivation of endothelial NF?-B by the composition.

  • Publication number: 20050080109
Abstract: A therapy for decreasing the rate of demyelination in multiple sclerosis comprising administering gamma-tocopherol and/or gamma-tocotrienol in a therapeutically effective dosage. The therapeutic dosage is high, between about 800 mg to about 10 grams of gamma-tocopherol and between about 50 mg to about 5 grams of gamma-tocotrienol per day.
