Building a Reed-Solomon (RS) frame corresponding to an ensemble of a service of mobile data, the RS frame being a 2-dimensional data frame through which the mobile data belonging to the ensemble are Reed Solomon-cyclic redundancy check (RS-CRC) encoded, dividing the RS frame into a plurality of portions, encoding signaling information, wherein the signaling information includes fast information channel (FIC) data and transmission parameter channel (TPC) data wherein the FIC data includes cross layer information between a physical layer and an upper layer, mapping data in one portion of the plurality of portions to data groups, formatting data packets having data in the data groups, and transmitting a transmission frame having a parade of the data groups, wherein the TPC data includes an identifier of the parade and version information of the FIC data.

    Abstract: A method of processing broadcast data in a broadcast transmitting system is presented. The method includes performing Reed-Solomon (RS) encoding and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) encoding on mobile service data bytes to generate an RS frame, wherein the RS frame comprises an RS frame payload including the mobile service data bytes, RS parity data bytes added at bottom ends of columns of the RS frame payload and CRC data bytes added at right ends of rows of the RS frame payload having the RS parity data bytes, dividing the RS frame into a plurality of portions, wherein each of the plurality of portions has an equal size of data bytes, converting the data bytes of the plurality of portions into data bit, and encoding each of the data bits at a code rate of 1/H to output data symbols, wherein H is greater than 1.

    Abstract: A broadcast receiver and a method of processing data are disclosed. The broadcast receiver includes a signal receiving unit, a known sequence detector, and a channel equalizer. The signal receiving unit repeats, when an operating mode of the broadcast receiver has been switched to a Discontinuous Receive (DRx) mode, preset wake-up and sleep sections, and receives a broadcast signal containing main broadcast service and mobile broadcast service data in the wake-up section. The known sequence detector detects known data included in the received broadcast signal. The channel equalizer uses the detected known data, thereby channel-equalizing the received mobile broadcast service data.

In the broadcast receiving system receiving broadcast signals, the broadcast receiving system includes a transmission parameter decoding unit, a known sequence detector, and a burst controller. The transmission parameter decoding unit detects information on a burst of a received signal from broadcast data having main service data and mobile service data multiplexed therein within a field of the received signal and outputs the detected information on the burst. The known sequence detector receives burst information from the transmission parameter decoding unit and uses the received burst information and known data position information included in the received data, so as to output burst control information. The burst controller uses the burst control information to control power supply of the broadcast receiving system.

The signal receiving unit receives a broadcast signal including main service data and an RS frame including a plurality of MPH service data packets. The demodulating unit demodulates data of the RS frame. The demultiplexer identifies an MPH service data packet including an IP datagram of mobile service data with reference to an MPH header of each MPH service data packet in the RS frame, and when a stuffing data is inserted in the identified payload of MPH service data packet, removes the stuffing data from the payload and separates an audio and video data from IP datagram of the mobile service data of the payload, and outputs the separated audio and video data.
