Patent number: 7400946Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring the velocity of a vehicle are provided. An acceleration measurement received from an accelerator and RGI data received from an external information server are stored and an irregularity constant of the accelerator is determined. It is determined whether the vehicle is in a stationary state by analyzing the acceleration measurement. If the vehicle is not in the stationary state, the inclination angle of a road on which the vehicle is traveling is calculated using a plurality of three-dimensional shape points included in the RGI data. A gravity acceleration component is compensated for from the acceleration measurement using the road inclination angle. The velocity of the vehicle is calculated using the compensated acceleration measurement.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2004Date of Patent: July 15, 2008Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., LtdInventors: Kook-Yeon Lee, Hyun-Suk Min, Hyun-Su Hong

Publication number: 20080086260Abstract: An in-vehicle voice recognition apparatus and method for outputting a voice for notifying when a factor interfering with voice recognition is detected on a road on which a vehicle travels. A camera unit takes an image of the road on which the vehicle travels and transmits the taken road image to a navigation system. An acceleration sensor measures acceleration variation values of the vehicle during traveling and transmits the measured acceleration variation values of the vehicle to the navigation system. The navigation system controls an operation for outputting a voice when a factor interfering with the voice recognition is determined to be present on the road on which the vehicle travels through at least one of the road image received from the camera unit, the acceleration variation values of the vehicle received from the acceleration sensor, and map data.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 3, 2007Publication date: April 10, 2008Applicant: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.Inventors: Kook-Yeon LEE, Jin-Won Kim, Byoung-Ki Jeon

Publication number: 20070276586Abstract: Disclosed is a method of setting a navigation terminal for a destination using voice recognition, which includes the steps of causing the navigation terminal to produce a guidance voice for requesting a voice input of the destination, causing the navigation terminal to receive the voice input, causing the navigation terminal to set the destination as a path search destination if the destination extracted from the voice input is found in a destination list previously stored, and if the extracted destination is not found in the destination list, causing the navigation terminal to receive a reference item inputted by the user corresponding to at least a destination classification reference for setting a part of a plurality of destinations previously stored corresponding to the reference item as a search range and to search out the destination corresponding to the extracted destination in the search range for setting it as the path search destination.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2007Publication date: November 29, 2007Applicant: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.Inventors: Byoung-Ki Jeon, Kook-Yeon Lee, Jin-Won Kim

Patent number: 7032450Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and a method for measuring the speed of a land vehicle using an accelerometer. The method includes the steps of storing measurement data provided from an accelerometer; analyzing the measurement data to determine whether the vehicle is stopped; calculating a road angle using the measurement data of the accelerometer when it is determined, upon analysis, that the vehicle is moving; determining the sign of the road angle when the road angle is greater than a threshold value; compensating for a gravitational acceleration component included in the measurement data of the accelerometer using the road angle; and calculating the speed of the vehicle based on the acceleration of the vehicle with the gravitational acceleration component compensated. It is possible to reduce the number of expensive gyroscopes needed for a vehicle speed measuring apparatus, thereby reducing the cost of the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2004Date of Patent: April 25, 2006Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kook-Yeon Lee, Hyun-Su Hong, Yoon-Deock Lee, Jin-Won Kim

Patent number: 6928382Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for measuring the speed of a moving body using an accelerometer. A value of earth's gravitational acceleration component is detected from the measurements from the accelerometer and is removed from the acceleration value. Then, the acceleration value, after removal of the earth's gravitational acceleration component, is used to obtain the speed of the moving body. The earth's gravitational acceleration component is detected using a movement average at a point of time when the speed of the moving body is to be measured. By using the magnitude of a difference between a value obtained by removing an x-axis movement average from an x-axis measurement from the two-axis accelerometer and another value obtained by removing a y-axis movement average from a y-axis measurement from the two-axis accelerometer, it is possible to regulate a window for calculating the movement average and a weight value to each of the measurements included in the window.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2004Date of Patent: August 9, 2005Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hyun-Su Hong, Kook-Yeon Lee
