  • Patent number: 5713580
Abstract: In a metallic gasket in which a plate member having at least one flexible metal plate has a hole, a flat portion formed at the periphery of the hole and a bead disposed concentrically with the hole to the outside of the flat portion is sandwiched between joining faces, an annular stopper is secured to the plate member at a position corresponding to the flat portion on the side of the hole. The stopper is made of a metal material different from the plate member and formed to an increased thickness at a portion for a larger gap, and formed to a decreased thickness at a portion for a smaller gap depending on the difference of the size of the gap between the joining faces.

  • Patent number: 5580065
Abstract: A metallic gasket includes two base plates and a subplate interposed between the base plates, and cylinder bore holes are formed respectively in the base plates and the subplate concentrically. Beads are respectively formed on the base plates circumferentially along a periphery of the cylinder bore hole. An inner edge of the subplate facing the cylinder bore hole is folded back to form a folded section having two layers, and a starting point of a substantially round-shaped folded end portion of the folded section of the subplate is positioned on a line perpendicular to a surface of the gasket, which line passes through ends of the base plates defining the cylinder bore hole, or the starting point of the folded end portion of the folded section of the subplate is positioned slightly at an inside towards the cylinder bore hole beyond the ends of the ends of the base plates. As a result, the folded end portion of the subplate protrudes beyond the ends of the base plates.

  • Patent number: 5544899
Abstract: A metallic gasket includes two elastic metal base plates and a thinner subplate disposed between the inner sides of the base plates, wherein at least two cylinder bore holes are perforated in each of the base plates and subplate, a bead protrudes outward from each base plate at the periphery of each cylinder bore hole by way of a flat area, and a linear bead joining the beads for both of the adjacent cylinder bore holes is formed between the adjacent cylinder bore holes. The subplate includes an essentially circular circumferential edge portion present only at the periphery of each of the cylinder bore holes and a continuous portion between adjacent cylinder bore holes.

  • Patent number: 5427388
Abstract: A metallic gasket of a structure in which a bead is formed to a base plate having at least one elastic metallic sheet, wherein a shim is secured to a flat portion of the base plate on the concave side of the bead at a position displaced from the center of the bead toward a bore hole of the base plate, with the ends of the base plate and the shim being aligned on the side of the bore hole, and the shim is extended into the bead with a contour matching the concave surface of the bead.

  • Patent number: 5370406
Abstract: This invention provides a metallic gasket which assures to impart a sufficient sealing function to an engine having a limited inter-bore space and can make the pressure applied around the bores uniform and keep the roundness of the bores intact. This metallic gasket is constructed from two base plates of an elastic material, beads on one base plate being larger in width than beads on the other plate, and is characterized in that the base plates are fixed together at their flat segments located closer to the center of the bores than to the center of the beads and along the circumference of the bores.

  • Patent number: 5280928
Abstract: A metallic gasket according to the present invention includes two base plates made of an elastic material. One base plate is provided with an array of beads in association with an odd-numbered combustion chamber bore, only one end segments of which are provided with stoppers, while the other base plate is provided with an array of beads in association with an even-numbered combustion chamber bore, only one end segments of which are provided with stoppers. The base plates are then antisymmetrically laminated together.

  • Patent number: 5197747
Abstract: A metallic gasket for multi-cylindered arrangements includes two base plates formed of a resilient metal, each having an array of beads on the peripheral edge of an opening provided for a combustion chamber. One of said base plates is provided with an array of arched beads which are associated with an odd-numbered cylinder and displaced from the center of an inter-cylinder space in a given direction to define flat segments on which stoppers are located, and the other base plate is provided with an array of arched beads which are associated with an even-numbered cylinder and displaced from the center of the inter-cylinder space in a direction opposite to the first-mentioned given direction to define flat segments on which stoppers are located. The base plates being laminated antisymmetrically with respect to each other.
