Publication number: 20240300344Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure relate to automatic actuation of a vehicle charging port closure based on one or more detections. A device implementing the subject technology may include at least one processor configured to detect conditions such as a battery charge state, a proximity to a charger, an elapsed time since last charge, and/or whether the charging station is one at which charging is frequently performed. Such detections can form the basis of a determination that the user is likely to utilize the charging port, and the vehicle and provide automatic actuation. Accordingly, automatic handsfree opening of the charging port closure can be provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2023Publication date: September 12, 2024Inventors: Kostandinos PAPANIKOLAOU, Thorsten LUEDTKE, Shukan Shitalkumar Parekh

Publication number: 20230383823Abstract: The actuator can include a driver coupled with a motor. The actuator can include a shaft extending through the driver. The actuator can include an anchor coupled with the shaft. The motor can be configured to translate the anchor at a first time by translation of the shaft through the driver. The motor can be configured to rotate the anchor at a second time by rotation of the shaft with the driver. The second time can be different than the first time.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 26, 2022Publication date: November 30, 2023Inventors: Robert Giannella, Thomas Young, Kostandinos Papanikolaou

Patent number: 11795747Abstract: Various disclosed embodiments include illustrative hinges, door assemblies, storage bins, and vehicles. In an illustrative embodiment a hinge includes a hinge bracket, a hinge pin, a hinge arm, and a detent assembly. The hinge arm is rotatably connected to the hinge bracket via the hinge pin. The detent assembly is adapted to define a detent position of the hinge arm relative to the hinge bracket that is between an open position and a closed position of the hinge arm relative to the hinge bracket. The detent assembly includes a detent plate and a plunger assembly. The detent plate includes a recess formed therein. The plunger assembly includes an end that is biased at least partially into the recess while circumferentially aligned therewith to define the detent position.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2021Date of Patent: October 24, 2023Assignee: Rivian IP Holdings, LLCInventors: Victor Daniel Rojas, Carlos Chon, Kostandinos Papanikolaou, Julio Cesar Maldonado Cruz, Marcus Merideth

Patent number: 11668120Abstract: A system for managing door operation of a vehicle includes a door system and a doorjamb system configured for the door to close against. The door system includes a door having a handle mechanism, an indicator mechanism coupled to the handle mechanism and actuated by motion of the handle mechanism, and a latch feature configured to be engaged for latching the door closed. The doorjamb system includes a sensor configured to generate a sensor signal indicative of a state of the indicator mechanism, and a latching mechanism configured to secure and release the latch feature of the door. Control circuitry of the vehicle is coupled to the sensor and latching mechanism, and is configured to receive the sensor signal, and control the latching mechanism based on the sensor signal. The control circuitry determines state information for the vehicle and determines whether to secure or release the latch mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2020Date of Patent: June 6, 2023Assignee: Rivian IP Holdings, LLCInventors: Thomas Young, Rajinder Pal Singh, Marcus Merideth, Kostandinos Papanikolaou

Patent number: 6481092Abstract: An electromagnetic coil assembly particularly suited for use in high-acceleration impact devices includes an inner hub having a flat metal and dielectric strip wound thereabout to form a coil, and an outer body mounted about the inner hub against one side of the coil. Inner and outer coil leads are formed by flat 90° bends of the inner and outer ends of the coil strip, such that the coil leads extend axially away from the coil toward one end of the coil assembly. Recesses are formed in the end faces of the inner hub and outer body at this end of the assembly, and the coil leads are folded into these recesses and attached by lug connectors to a pair of electrical conductors that lead out the side of the coil assembly. The coil leads and conductors are secured in the recesses, preferably by potting them in place.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2001Date of Patent: November 19, 2002Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: James N. Buttrick, Jr., Kostandinos Papanikolaou, David Paul Banks, Paul Reuben Arntson
