  • Patent number: 4052305
Abstract: An automatic self-cleaning liquid clarification system wherein suspended solids are removed from a contaminated liquid. A hollow drum carrying a plurality of brushing elements mounted on its outer periphery scrubs a strainer or screen and elevates the solid contaminants separated by the screen into a pitched auger conveyor which removes additional liquid from the solids materials which are then conveyed in a semi-dry or damp state for discharge.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 30, 1975
Date of Patent: October 4, 1977
    Inventor: Kostas Savas Arvanitakis
  • Patent number: 4014790
Abstract: A filtration system discharging dry sludge material comprising filter aid material and contaminants removed from the liquid which have all been subjected to heat and mechanical action. These materials are conveyed from the discharge of the filtration system to a feeder for controlled introduction into the filtration system as necessary, or for disposal or reclamation.

  • Patent number: 4001115
Abstract: A method of clarifying contaminated liquid through the use of a storage reservoir for containing high volume surges of contaminated influent and chemically treating the influent passed thereinto and a dilution reservoir for selectively transferring the contents of the storage reservoir thereinto to more uniformly control the solids content of the influent to be transferred to the filtration system. The filtration system includes a primary and secondary filter which clarify the contaminated liquid.

  • Patent number: 3997406
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for receiving low-volume liquid sludge concentrations, exposing the liquid-sludge slurry to a heating surface thereby evaporating a portion of the liquid from the slurry, and advancing the contaminant bearing liquid for further exposure to additional heating surfaces such that as the slurry passes therethrough, in thermal contact with the heating surfaces, the solids content is increased by evaporating the liquid material while allowing the solids material to accumulate on the heating surfaces which are automatically and continuously cleaned to maintain the efficiency of the system and discharge these materials in a substantially dry state.

  • Patent number: 3985656
Abstract: An apparatus for removing matter accumulated on a filter element, rotatable about a central axis, having an arm portion mounted at an angle relative to the radii extending from the central axis of the filter element and in a stationary position relative thereto. The arm portion supports a flexible means for engaging a surface of the filter element as the element is rotated relative to it to frictionally remove the accumulated matter from the surface. The arm and flexible means are preferably curved outwardly toward the periphery of the filter element to facilitate outward removal of matter while maintaining the integrity of the surface of the filter element.

  • Patent number: 3959143
Abstract: A portable filtration apparatus particularly adapted to remove solid and chemical contaminants from hot cooking liquids used in deep fryers, having a frame, a filter bowl mounted on the frame, a plurality of horizontal filter elements mounted on a hollow, vertical tube within the filter bowl, each of the filter elements having a corresponding cleaning means mounted adjacent it to engage and remove spent filter cake and contaminants from a filtering surface of the element when desired, and a pump mounted on the frame for continuously recirculating liquid through the filtering apparatus or returning filtered liquid to the deep fryer, as controlled by movement of a single valve. The filter elements are rotatable about a central axis of the tube within the filter bowl relative to the stationary cleaning means disposed across the surface of each element, to automatically remove spent filter cake and contaminants and eject them from an opening formed in the bowl.

  • Patent number: 3957636
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for clarifying contaminated liquid and/or recovering materials from a liquid utilizing horizontally disposed filter elements. Upon extending the filter cake or upon removing a predetermined amount of materials, the filter chamber is automatically drained of the liquid contained therein and the filter cake automatically removed from the supporting septum. Clarified liquid is recirculated through a precoat mixing chamber whereat filter aids are added to form a new filter cake on the filter elements. The expended filter cake containing the collected materials is removed from the filter chamber for disposal or further processing.
