    Abstract: The present invention relates to aluminium-ionic liquid-graphite batteries (AILGB), comprising an improved cathode material selected from the group of flake-shaped graphite. Particularly suitable flake shaped graphite contains flakes having an average plane size diameter of 5-5000 a thickness of 1-200 ?m and an aspect ratio (plane size:thickness) of 100:1 to 5:1. The invention further relates to methods of manufacturing such flake-shaped graphite and such batteries as well as to the use of such flake-shaped graphite.
