    Abstract: There is provided a method for production of a high-purity biodegradable polyoxyethylene derivative on an industrial scale using a polyoxyethylene compound containing polylactic acid at the terminal thereof. A biodegradable polyoxyethylene compound represented by formula (1) and a compound represented by formula (I) are caused to react with each other at 60° C. to 120° C. using toluene as a solvent in the presence of sodium acetate to obtain a biodegradable polyoxyethylene derivative represented by formula (2).
