    Abstract: An antimicrobial substance containing an ethylene copolymer as an active ingredient and an antimicrobial resin composition containing the ethylene copolymer are disclosed. The ethylene copolymer comprises from 40 to 95% by weight of ethylene, from 5 to 60% by weight of at least one dialkylaminoalkylacrylamide comonomer represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group: R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, which may be the same or different, each represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and n represents an integer of from 2 to 5, and up to 20% by weight of one or more of other ethylenically unsaturated comonomers, and has a number average molecular weight of from 5,000 to 50,000.

    Abstract: A conjugate fiber obtained by melt spinning (A) a crystalline poly-.alpha.-olefin and (B) an ethylene copolymer containing from 40 to 95% by weight of an ethylene unit and from 5 to 60% by weight of at least one dialkylaminoalkylacrylamide comonomer unit represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and n represents an integer of from 2 to 5,said ethylene copolymer having a melt index of from 10 to 1000 g/10 min as measured according to JIS K-6760, either by aligning the components (A) and (B) in parallel or by aligning the component (A) as a core and the component (B) as a sheath. The conjugated fiber is excellent in thermal adhesion, absorptivity by an acid aqueous solution, and dyeability and can easily be fabricated into a nonwoven fabric or nonwoven molding suited for various applications including separators of lead accumulators.

    Abstract: An aqueous dispersion of a cationic polymer is disclosed, which is obtained by reacting an ethylene copolymer comprising from 40 to 80% by weight of ethylene and from 20 to 60% by weight of at least one aminoalkyl acrylamide comonomer represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and n represents an integer of from 2 to 4, and having a melt index, as measured in accordance with JIS K-6760, of from 10 to 1,000 g/10 min with hydrochloric acid in water to form a quaternary salt and subsequently reacting the resulting quaternary salt with an epihalohydrin compound through addition reaction. The aqueous dispersion provides a coating film having an improved electrical conductivity or produces effects to simultaneously improve degree of sizing and wet strength of paper.

    Abstract: A conductive plastic molding obtained by melt molding an ethylene copolymer comprising from 40 to 90% by weight of an ethylene unit, from 10 to 60% by weight of at least one dialkylaminoalkylacrylamide comonomer unit represented by formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and n represents an integer of from 2 to 5, and up to 20% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated comonomer units and having a number average molecular weight of from 5,000 to 50,000 and impregnating at least 10 parts by weight of an aqueous solution of at least one of an organic acid, an inorganic acid, and an inorganic metal salt into 100 parts by weight of the resulting melt molded. The molding exhibits excellent conductivity and can be obtained easily and at low cost without any limitation on shape.

    Abstract: A lead accumulator using dilute sulfuric acid as an electrolyte liquor is disclosed, in which the electrolyte liquor is fixed by absorption or impregnation into an ethylene copolymer resin or a molding thereof comprising from 40 to 90% by weight of an ethylene unit and from 10 to 60% by weight of at least one comonomer unit selected from (A) and ethylenically unsaturated comonomer unit having an amido group and an amino group in the molecule thereof and (B) an ethylenically unsaturated comonomer unit having an ester group and an amino group in the molecule thereof and having an average molecular weight of from 5,000 to 50,000. The lead accumulator can be produced easily and at a low cost without limitations of shape and volume and has high performance reliability.
