  • Patent number: 5785152
Abstract: An end cap for a bicycle control cable of the type wherein an inner cable slides within an outer casing includes a housing defining a hollow chamber, wherein the housing has a first end defining a first opening for receiving the inner cable therethrough and a second end defining a second opening adapted to fit to the outer casing of the bicycle control cable. A lubricant is disposed in the chamber, and a screen is provided for screening the first opening at the first end of the housing. A portion of the hollow chamber between the lubricant and the second end of the housing is open through the second end of the housing, but the lubricant has sufficiently low fluidicity at normal temperature that the lubricant does not flow out of the housing.

  • Patent number: 5636709
Abstract: An end cap for a bicycle cable of the type wherein an inner cable slides within an outer casing includes a housing defining a hollow lubricant-filled chamber. The housing has a first end defining an opening for receiving the inner cable therethrough and a second end adapted to fit to the outer casing of the bicycle control cable. A first screen screens the opening at the first end of the housing, wherein the first screen is structured to rupture when the inner cable is passed therethrough. A displaceable second screen screens the second end of the housing. A seal is disposed at the first end of the housing. The seal includes an annular seal member defining an inner area, and the seal member is sized to sealingly fit over the outer periphery of the inner cable of the bicycle control cable.

  • Patent number: 5521769
Abstract: A magnetic tape drive in a helical scan system can shorten retry operation time. A data signal reproduced from magnetic tape through reproducing heads is supplied to a regenerative signal processing circuit. If an uncorrectable error is contained in the signal, the regenerative signal processing circuit outputs error information to a system controller. Then, the system controller sends a retry instruction to a movable head controller. When receiving the retry instruction, the movable head controller supplies movable head control signals to displacement elements which then displace the reproducing heads along a rotating shaft of a rotary drum for re-scanning an error occurrence data track. This retry operation is repeated until no error is detected. The magnetic tape is run at lower speed or is stopped as required during the repetitive retry operation.

  • Patent number: 5500775
Abstract: A data recording and reproducing apparatus of a helical scanning system includes a unit for recording and reproducing an information signal in an oblique information track on a magnetic tape by a rotary magnetic head and a unit for recording and reproducing a control signal on the magnetic tape in a longitudinal direction thereof. Further, the data recording and reproducing apparatus includes a memory unit for storing a difference (X-value error information) between a predetermined X value and a distance (X value) between a record starting position of the information track and a recorded position of the control signal, a unit for recording X-value error information on the magnetic tape individually each time information is recorded, a unit for reproducing X-value error information on the magnetic tape, and a unit for shifting a reproduced phase of the control signal in accordance with the X-value error information.

  • Patent number: 5471352
Abstract: A recording/playback apparatus wherein rotary heads play back positional information recorded on a magnetic tape which can travel rapidly in a search operation. Piezoelectric actuators extend the rotary heads, an actuator driver drives the piezoelectric actuators, and a microprocessor controls the actuator driver. A target position on the magnetic tape is designated through a control panel by a user of the apparatus. The processor controls the actuator driver so as to hold the heads out of contact with the tape in a pause or stop mode of the apparatus, and so as to bring the heads into temporary contact with the tape at least once before the tape is caused to travel to the target position, whereupon the processor detects the positional information on the tape. When the target position has been approached, the processor controls the actuator driver so as to hold the heads in contact with the tape, and it detects the positional information.

  • Patent number: 5463505
Abstract: An information recording-playback apparatus is made up of a circuit for recording first information, which is video data or data for the evaluation of a recording medium such as a magnetic tape, on the first track formed by helical scanning of rotary heads, a circuit for recording second information such as a control signal or time code or third information on a second or third track formed by one or more fixed heads in the longitudinal direction of the tape, and switching device for selecting the operational mode in which the first information and the second or third information are recorded or the operational mode in which only the second or third information is recorded. The arrangement enables pre-formatting of only the second or third information without recording the tape evaluation information.

  • Patent number: 5246744
Abstract: The invention relates to a plasma CVD method for the deposition of a thin film of amorphous silicon, or an amorphous silicon alloy, on a substrate by glow discharge decomposition of a raw material gas such as silane gas. The degradation of the photoconductivity of the obtained amorphous silicon film by irradiation with light is suppressed by mixing xenon gas with the raw material gas such that at the entrance to the reaction chamber the volume ratio of xenon gas to the raw material gas is not less than 1 and, preferably, not more than 30. A nearly comparable effect can be gained, and the material cost can be reduced, by mixing 1 part by volume of the raw material gas with 0.05 to 1 part of xenon gas and 5 to 30 parts of hydrogen gas.

  • Patent number: 5138504
Abstract: A tape transport control apparatus relating to changing means of high speed reel control transport and low speed capstan control transport in a tape transport control of a magnetic recording regenerative apparatus or the like. Particularly in a period of transition from the high speed driving state to the low speed driving state, a capstan motor is controlled through means for comparing phase of the control signal of the tape transport speed regenerated on the tape with phase of the capstan frequency generator signal of the capstan, and after the phase comparing means detects that the tape speed and the capstan rotational speed are coincident, the pinch roller is pressed against the capstan.
