  • Patent number: 9359989
Abstract: A vehicle includes a starter used for starting an engine and including an actuator performing an engagement operation with a pinion gear and a motor rotating the pinion gear that are separately controllable. When starting the engine by the user's key operation, a start request signal caused by the key operation is delayed in a delay circuit to output a control signal for driving the motor. When restarting an engine after the engine is automatically stopped, a malfunction detection unit detects a malfunction in the delay circuit based on a control signal for driving the actuator and the control signal for driving the motor.

  • Patent number: 9109567
Abstract: A starter includes a pinion gear, an actuator for moving the pinion gear to a position where the pinion gear is engaged with a ring gear in a driven state, and a motor for rotating the pinion gear. An ECU includes a rotation mode in which the motor is driven before the actuator is driven and an engagement mode in which the actuator is driven before the motor is driven. In the engagement mode, the actuator is driven after lapse of a predetermined first time period since a decision to start an engine was made, and the motor is driven after lapse of a second time period longer than the first time period since the decision to start the engine was made. In the rotation mode, the motor is driven after lapse of the second time period since a decision to start the engine was made.

  • Patent number: 9103312
Abstract: A vehicle control apparatus includes: detecting means (3) for detecting an open state or closed state of a hood of an engine room of a vehicle; control means (1) for controlling a power supply to an onboard device each time an input operation is performed on a switch (2); and drive control means (4) for starting or stopping an engine of the vehicle in accordance with whether or not a state of the vehicle satisfies a predetermined condition. The control means stops the power supply to the onboard device if the input operation is performed on the switch when the detecting means detects that the hood is open in a state where the engine has been stopped by the drive control means.

  • Patent number: 8714037
Abstract: A device for starting an engine includes a starter for starting the engine and an ECU. The starter includes a pinion gear for engagement with a ring gear for cranking the engine, an actuator structured to engage the pinion gear with a ring gear, and a motor for rotating the pinion gear. The actuator and the motor can individually be controlled. The ECU has a rotation mode for driving the motor prior to drive of the actuator and an engagement mode for causing the actuator to engage the pinion gear and the ring gear with each other prior to drive of the motor. When a request to start the engine is made, the ECU switches selection between the rotation mode and the engagement mode based on a rotation speed of the engine and a reduction rate in rotation speed of the engine.

  • Patent number: 8707924
Abstract: An engine is driven by a starter including a pinion gear that can be engaged with a ring gear coupled to a crankshaft; an actuator causing, in a driven state, the pinion gear to be moved to a position where the pinion gear is engaged with the ring gear; and a motor causing the pinion gear to be rotated. The engine is provided with a rotation angle sensor for detecting rotation of the crankshaft. ECU detects the crank angle of the crankshaft based on a signal from the rotation angle sensor after the actuator is driven and the motor is driven.

  • Patent number: 8706387
Abstract: When a predetermined stop condition is satisfied, an engine is stopped. When a predetermined start condition is satisfied, a motor in a starter is driven and the engine is started. When a voltage of a battery for supplying electric power to the motor becomes lower than a threshold value while the motor is driven, stoppage of the engine is thereafter restricted. The threshold value increases as an engine rotation speed at the time when the motor is driven increases.
