  • Patent number: 6049319
Abstract: A liquid crystal display is provided with: a liquid crystal panel having a liquid crystal layer that is disposed between signal electrodes and scanning electrodes, a signal-side driving circuit which applies binary voltages representative of data to be displayed on the liquid crystal panel to the signal electrodes, a scanning-side driving circuit which successively applies scanning voltages to the scanning electrodes, a control circuit which controls the signal-side driving circuit so that rounded waveforms of voltages to be respectively applied to the signal electrodes are made virtually constant, and a compensation circuit which eliminates voltage distortions that are induced with respect to non-selected scanning electrodes, when the signal-side driving circuit is controlled.

  • Patent number: 5112262
Abstract: In a displaying cell of a liquid crystal display device, glass substrates are formed to overhang a displaying area and electrodes formed on the glass substrates are also formed to overhang the displaying area. An electrode formed on a wiring substrate, in which integrated circuit chips are mounted in order to drive the electrodes, is connected by an anistotropic conductive film to the electrodes on the glass substrates. Space is provided on the glass substrates, so that another anisotropic conductive film can be provided between the attaching position of the anisotropic conductive film and the displaying area. In the event that a connection is disconnected, a wire is broken or the current leaks, the wiring substrates are peeled off, and the connection is repaired. After repair, the wiring substrate is connected to a different part of the electrode on the glass sbstrate.

  • Patent number: 4909603
Abstract: A liquid crystal display element in which a liquid crystal layer is interposed between a pair of electrodes. At least one of the electrodes is light shielding. The liquid crystal display element utilizes a polarized light absorption axis for a pair of polarizers which are arranged on the respective side of the liquid crystal layer. The positioning of the polarizers is selected so that the angle of polarized light causes the liquid crystal layer to have a light shielding quality when no voltage is applied across the pair of electrodes.

  • Patent number: 4824212
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device comprising a display screen and liquid crystal element-driving circuits. The display screen has an effective display region with a plurality of transparent electrodes on both sides of liquid crystal elements to make characters visible and a non-display region that is the region other than the effective display region. The driving circuits are divided into two groups. One group is for driving the liquid crystal elements in the effective display region to display desired characters, and the other group is for driving the liquid crystal elements in the non-display region to make the non-display region dark or bright.
